D-dog
i find d-dog fun but there is problems with the mechanics. if i tell him to stay he should stay where he is until i call him but after like 8 seconds he continues following me. makes it difficult to set up traps to combo 2 enemies that patrol together. i know wheres other ways but i think it can be awesome to set raps with d-dog. i only found it best when sneaking up behind them. but if i want them to come to me it wont work unless i can do it and set up under 8 seconds and come to me. even after barking, after he is done he comes to me immediately. leading the enemy right to me. sucks :/

This has been a really common complaint on the forums, and you're 100% correct. In mission 9, Backup, Back Down, I wanted to have him sit in the middle of the road to stop the vehilces for a split second so I can fulton them. What does DD do? Right before they drive by he runs back to my side and the vehicles cruise by.

What I have found to be helpful are stun decoys, or if you are in free roam and you can grab one of the puppet soldiers who will make any normal solders fall over stunned on sight.

DD is also great for prisoner missions. Once you have the prisoner spotted, don't disable any of the other guards, just send DD in to fulton them. If you have wormhole tech developed you can be almost 100m away and DD will trot over and fulton them without you even having to set foot in the enemy base.

This was something that I found irritating but I can understand the game wouldn't want you to get too far away from him and end up with path finding issues.

Though I just tried training him on Mother Base and it seemed to have an effect. I noticed he would stay as long as you didn't go past about 9 meters. So I told him to stay, went 9 meters and then called him and when he arrived I patted him. I did this a few times and moved further away each time and managed to get him to stay up to 14 meters. Any else can confimr you can train him.

hmmm personal training. i wonder if thats a mechanic. i also wonder if it compares to buddy bond percentage as well. so many questions. but id rather just have him stay. if path finding is an issue the call could work just like d-horse and appear out of no where. im fine with that.

It's not a bug, DD not staying is fully intended by the dev's. DD works exactly how they want him too. Remember during Ocelot's training when he said on a few occasions that DD doesn't understand or like the concept of staying?

It's intentional.

D-Horse is meant to stop vehicles in the middle of the road. Not D-Dog. Each buddy has their own functions. D-Dog is no different.

I completed a mission and got the message that I could now customise D-Dog, which means I had acheived the full buddy bond. Still, he was only staying to a distance of 9 meters after that and I got him to stay to 14m. insta†.Neferpitou says he got him to stay up to 23m.

So maybe you need to have the full bond to be able to do it. I am going to investigate further later today,

D-Horse definitely responds to getting run the ♥♥♥♥ over better.

Nope, I was wrong. It's not distance that matters it's time. He will stay even if you go out to 40-50m but after about 10 seconds he will come after you. He would be much more useful if he could be trained to stay in one spot until called - maybe that is possible but we just don't know how yet :steamfacepalm:

Other things you can do

1. Put 1 lethal round into a vehicle. They will get out and investigate.
2. Box in road. You not in it.
3. Explosive somewhere around where they can hear it, c4 or grenade or whatever.
4. Decoys in path.

I prefer decoys for that, they they don't poop on command but I can keep a ton of them in my pocket and they don't lose bond every time they get popped.

Yeah I have never used the "Wait" command. The "Keep 'em Busy" command is INSANELY useful though. Really good for when a single enemy is investigating your hiding spot.

Exactly, DD should stay... they should fix this. Ive posted it before but I brought him along with me to help find mines... came really close to having him set them off. *shakes head*

Whats so hard about having him not move, just like D horse does automatically?

I got Bark for the first time. Thought it would grab like a guy or two around 15 meters. Half the base went mmmrk !! lol, I had to hightail it outta there.

I've been wondering why I haven't seen the little critter since the funny cutscene where he can't manage to get in the chopper, but then I keep neglecting to go back to Mother Base because it's a LOT quicker just to go back to the chopper.

I've been redoing missions a lot to get the side objectives, and the time it takes to get to Mother Base gets annoying. I WAS going there mostly just when new side ops missions showed up there, but that damned R&D Target Practice kinda turned me off to that.

I get the feeling from what's been said here that I probably missed some DD development cutscenes. The game is good, but the grinding to get teams and items often makes you too impatient to enjoy the nuances.
