Does S rank stand for Snake Rank?
I was wondering because in the mission sortie you choose character and it says snake has A++ in all skills but when you get a new soldier it says the highest ranked soldier you can get is S++. If what I am thinking is true then wouldn't that mean Snake isn't even snake ranked?

It doesn't mean Snake. Japanese games usually have some sort of S after A in ranking systems. I think Devil May Cry had a similar system where S meant Super.

S is legendary. or Super. Venom is neither of those things.

Ocelot is...but that was just another poor game design...one of many.

EDIT: And there is a nifty mod on modnexus that will make all the 'named' characters S+ rank according to their profiles, and you can find S+ and S++ in the open world when you get far enough into progression.

To clarify...Ocelot is legendary and super, but does not have S rank...only S rank you will see in normal game come from open world. S+ and S++ are only from end of chapter bonuses and PvP bonuses.

I can tell you why Snake is an A++ soldier and not S++, but that would ruin the entire MGS5 story.

I know why you say that, but PW also had soldiers with better stats than Snake.

S comes from 優れ ( Sugure in romanji ) which means superb / excellent in Japanese.

Big Boss in peace walker had worst stats... just "A".
