How does the *security cost* for FOB'S work?

It seems to take whatever is needed to hire more dudes or gear them out or something whenever you're invaded and lose men. The more "prepared" you set them, the more it will cost to respply/reoutfit/rehire or whatever it does.

trust me though when you reach the 'end' game u will be swimming in gmp that it doesnt matter the cost

The Costs will be substracted every time oyu get attacked. however, if you defend sucessfully it will always give so much GMP you still get a lot of + in the end so you never see the costs.
Actually one sucessful defense pays for 2-4 failed defenses in terms of GMP costs, so don't worry about setting it high.
