The boss battles... :-( [SPOILERS]
some of my favorite things about previous MGs were the boss battles. MGS3 in particular had some very memorable ones. MG liked to hype up it's bosses usually in the medium of codex calls which gave them a personality and altogether made them more enjoyable to battle. However this game really only had sahelathropous. the quiet boss battle was a bad knockoff of the end (and sniper wolf), eli was a joke and the rest were against emotionless, generic skulls. we didnt even get a decent fight against the man on fire ffs which had the potential to be a great boss battle (as well as skull face who kinda just... dies). the gameplay was fantastic although the level design didnt take full advantage of it making it repetitive in the end. i left it with an empty feeling because although it was a great game, it should have been so much more

Sahe and Quiet were the only two bosses worth mentioning and Sahe was just an easy rocket sponge. Quiet was ok, with the destructible buidlings and the most varied environment in the game. It's truly a shame that there are no MEMORABLE bosses but that's because there is hardly any story.

MGS 5 had boss battles, it's just that they were all essentially the same. Fight the skulls, over and over again.

ikr. very unlike an MG game. they usually do them so well. I have to imgaine they had more planned and never managed to get them in the final cut

Yeah I don't know how they could really pass off any of the fights as boss battles. Even the sahelanthropus fight you could take him down in a matter of minutes with the APC's rocket barrage, and really? The man on fire they'd been hyping the entire game from the very first mission ...and he gets run over by sahelanthropus... What a joke. None of the things that made the previous MGS games great are present in this one.

I miss Quiet so much :(

I despise gimmicky boss fights, they are definitely in my "Con" category. That is the exact reason I stopped playing Deus Ex. Ridiculous, unrealistic, gimmicky boss fights. IMO it ruined the game.

The only boss fights I loved, was when I played WoW. Gimmicky?....maybe, but in a different way.

you may call boss fights gimmicky but i think they add variation to glameplay styles (when done well and MG has some fantastic bosses). and one thing this game sorely lacked was variation. a lot of the main missions just felt like drawn out side ops.

The only hard boss in this game was salafartipus in my opinion. Quiet was just a normal enemy, all you had to do is just call supply drops on here.

I remember 4 boss battles. Quiet, Volgin, Sahelanthropus, and Eli. Every single one of them is really good if you fight them in a "legit" way (Sniper against Quiet, Trying to make Volgin fall of the cliff or in the pool, RPG against Jehuty, and CQC only against Eli) , but it's kinda nice to have the opportunity to not play fair and use supply drop against Quiet, Weather control against Volgin, and stealth one shot against Eli.

something in MGSV's favor is being able to run from most Skulls fights. something i wished was possible so many times in some of the more annoying MGS boss fights. dont get me wrong i love some of those fights (well mainly the ones in MGS3 which are god-tier) but personally it tended to be a HUGE ramp up in difficulty resulting in a frustrating hour or so of trying to win a single fight. pretty sure my first time fighting Ocelot in MGS (shooting at him from off-screen, ugh) was a royal pain. the Hind D in MGS2 is an exercise in torture if you don't have a bunch of spare rations....

the Skulls are actually pretty fun if you decide to take them down. you don't want to be too out in the open or they will all shoot you simultaneously but then you also want to be taunting them to get those CQC strikes in. the sniper skulls are my favorite form at the moment...

I'm glad they didn't have a group to slaughter, it was getting old. We did it 4 times already. MS1 and 4 had the best boss battles.

i agree/disagree. Sahlanthropus and the 4 v 1 sniper duel are pretty good MGS boss fights imo.
