So, here is the meaning of the ending. The "real" Big Boss is a worthless son of a ♥♥♥♥♥ who used his friend to continue HIS battle. Mother Base's attack wouldn't have happened if Big Boss wouldn't have brought a nuke to it. Big Boss caused his friend his arm, his eye and his very own personality to create a phantom to carry on his war . Venom Snake, in the other corner, is a pawn used by him to carry on a false hero's legend. Let's put it this way, Naked Snake deleted Venom's personality, his name, his past, everything was stolen from him and replaced it with his personality . to make sure he would belive that he always was Big Boss and to keep fighting the war he abandoned, to create the true Outer Heaven? that's not an excuse for what he did for a fellow soldier. All the things that happened to Venom were supposed to happen to Naked Snake. He got the shrapnel on the head to protect Big Boss. he became a demon to fulfil his false dream of Outer Heaven. And even after knowing the truth , he accepted it and continued his " role" like a true soldier. Venom Snake is a Boss to surpass Big Bos himself. the demon that he became possessed him completely at Metal Gear 1 , 11 years later, the phantoms that haunt his soul were all the people he killed for that lie , but he lived on, like a true man , not like Naked, who passed his curse to a friend who helped, believed and followed him all the time to end up like that. Venom Snake died in 1995 . he got killed by Solid Snake. After all of that, at least, he died for what he believed in.

There is no real proof that Big Boss used Venom, he was force to do so because of Skull Face getting closer to him, Zero made up the plan as well not BB, if you listen to all the tape even Big Boss ask to see the medic face one more time before they change him because he was one of his best men, Medic was in a way at the same level as Miller but we never knew untill The PhantomPain, but he was indeed an important man to Big Boss.

And in fact it's Hemmerich that screw the MB over, not Big Boss bringing the nuke in, Big Boss had it all plan they were going to be fine, the world needed his army like in Peace Walker incident.
But Skull Face was jealous of BB because he is XOF the shadow of FOX the shadow of Big Boss and he wanted his revenge on the world for what happened to him younger, losing his tongue his language, he wanted the world to know his pain, classic vilain story.

But Zero got sick because of Skull Face so Zero himself couldn't fight agaisnt Skull Face anymore, so in urgent and dramatic times you use desperate plans such as decoys because Big Boss was the only man who could still stand agaisnt Skull Face but was still in the coma, he needed protection, V has come to.

The story is simple it's just revenge, the only link we missing is if V and BB were still close or grow apart around the rising of Outer Heaven time, that's all we don't know for sure.

Two problems with that:

1. Big Boss woke up before Venom did. He was an active participant in the plan to use Venom as a decoy.
2. Big Boss didn't do anything to fight Skull Face. Big Boss went on to do his own unspecified thing while Venom, Revolver Ocelot and Miller (Big Boss's best friend, co-founder of Militaries sans Frontiers and long time comrade, we should note) did EVERYTHING.

It was a stupid twist for the sake of having a twist. It doesn't add anything to the story whatsoever, except make Big Boss come across as a moronic, selfish ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
