METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

My thoughts on PC MGO as a MGO2 vet since 2008: 7/10 - Tweaks that I would like to see changed and why
Back Story: I'm an avid fan of the series, and was overly obsessed with MGO2 the moment I started playing. I have waited almost 3 years for this moment and since I decided to buy an expensive computer instead of a ps4, I have not been able to play MGO until now.

Metal Gear Online 3 may be far superior than past MGO's because its running on the FOX engine, but I was surprised to discover it was much more similar than I expected, despite seeing console gamers remarks and YouTube videos. So what I'm about to say may conflict with some of you, and the direction of MGO3 depending on two things:

•How much they want to Reinvent the game. or
•How much they want to make it original.

This game has the ability to achieve one or the other, so as an original MGO2 player I am hoping they move more to an original feel.

IMPRESSION

Currently, the game is FUN, but that's mostly it. The experiences I have in matches are incredible and bring me back to the old days, but they feel less meaningful once the round is over. I feel like I've been tossed into a Lottery Game System, whereas the Old MGO2 felt like its own MMO WORLD during and outside of matches because of the lobbies.

TOO EASY TO KILL = FAST PACED

• MGO3 made it easy to kill with body shots, and is too fast paced compared MGO2. But whos to say that MGO2 had it worse? That may be an argument, but its a fact that what set MGO2 apart was the precise battles that resulted in crazy cqc fights where those glorious OH ♥♥♥♥ moments lasted longer. I did not see this as often because its simply TOO EASY TO KILL I had "oh ♥♥♥♥" moments but they where unexpectedly quick, often to come by, EASY to pull off, and before I could take it all in, I would instantly die by a player who spawned behind me.

If this is how its supposed to be then unfortunately MGO3 will be a very fun and generic shooter, but it wont be the addictive and unique cult classic of MGO.
If you agree, please read on. If you like the fast paced aspect and direction then stop reading and go enjoy the game, along with CS go and battlefront!

CLOAK AND DAGGER STEALTH CAN BE MUCH BETTER

• Cloak and dagger is gimmicky, and is not utilizing its full potential (compared to MGO2) I have seen people online complain about stealth. Yes, as an original mgo2 player I could not FATHOM the idea of stealth in normal games and all of us would have thought it to be over powered BECAUSE in mgo2 tou where actually invisible. In MGO2's version of Cloak and Dagger (Named Team Sneak) there where some AMAZING core concepts that made it heart stopping and extreamly intense, that just wont ever happen in MGO3 because you can still see the characters outline. There is no point in standing still because anyone can get a bead on your position by your outline.

Original MGO2 players are use to ONLY having to look for dust, shadows, the sound of foot prints, or a hovering gun. Players would have to lie flat on the ground or "Salute" (Buddy up) to get rid of the floating gun and knife to become COMEPLETLEY INVISIBLE. There was nothing more scary than being stuck in a salute while 5 players are running around you.

The way MGO3 handles stealth is totally different with the transparent outline, and its just not as fun or intense as TRUE invisibility in MGO2. However, I do think that the current state of stealth is PERFECT for normal games, and I think it should remain that way, and yes both game types can have different types of stealth, because in MGO2 your teammates where not totally invisible to you, they had a transparent outline just like MGO3 but that was only seen by team mates. The game would not render anything at all for the opposing side.

LOBBIES AND CLANS. (AUTO MATCH ONLY = SHALLOW SOCIAL INTERACTION)

•Lastly, The game needs lobbies and clans. There is so much emphases on ranks, and scores, and stats, but none of that stuff is as important to me if I cant flaunt it around lobbies. Seeing leading players on the monthly leader boards, and finding the lobbies they joined was a really fun and social dynamic.
You could invest your time in getting to know the different cliques or clans, get a feel for that side of the town or that side of the town, you could find recruiting rooms, training rooms, and special RPG rooms with user made game modes like "JAIL" or "ZOMBIES" or "SWAT"(my favorite)
But instead all we have are quick match lottery systems just like call of duty, and that is very unfortunate.

TO END:
(TL;DR)

•too easy to kill body shots = too fast paced and you cant fully enjoy the real combat you are capable of in a MGS game. Nerf bullet to body damage to have more dynamic firefights plus cqc, and to bring back the importance of head shots for advanced players.

•Stealth is fair for normal games, but Cloak and dagger mode is not fun and too easy to spot. Bring back true invisibility for the cloak and dagger game mode, and have the guns remain visible but disappear if you salute or play dead to balance it out.

•Bring back Lobbies and clans. MGO2 had its own game culture and its own player world because of lobbies. It made leaderboard ranks more meaningful socially, and the ability to create and name rooms allowed for special games like user made modes, training, or chill out rooms.

Before you tell me what my opinions are wrong; I'm not even trying to say they are right. I think MGO3 is great, but I personally don't want to shelf it up along with "every other shooter game" in my library. MGO is special to me, and I want this game to be another addictive cult classic like the past two MGO games, completely set apart from other shooters. so all the things I mentioned would help make that possible.

You're late to the party. Pretty much everything you said has been said before.

I feel you, mang. MGO2 was way more fun. Played MGO3 on a console long before the PC release... Was nothing new to me

Thanks.
Honestly im relived after playing it for the first time. I really think there is potential for it to be original, plus they are adding in new features like the knife and the patting to wake up. so im looking forward to it, and lets hope they make the right changes!

I feel you. :/ TSNE used to be my most played game mode on MGO2, it was a true sneaking game mode. You had to use your eyes and ears just as much, taking advantage of the animations and man I miss those moments hanging on the stairway on W.W while 4 guys run past you...

Now on MGO3 C&D didn't quite have the same feel just like you said, also no items on maps like NVG. There's also less game modes than MGO2 but some were not so popular like Race and I would rather want them to focus making these 3 game modes as good as possible. And yes I'd love to have lobbies and clans in game aswell, it was nice seeing familar lobbies on MGO2.

I think MGO3 has gone to alot better dirrection after the recent updates (earlier on consoles), still needs a lot of balancing like MSR-4 is too accurate, SERVAL is pretty much spammable one shot sniper, infiltrator was maybe nerfed way too much and is really weak. But slower wake up and knife are going to be welcome changes and useful for infiltrator, we'll see how it turns out when more updates come.

Sorry for lots of text, I'm very passionate when it comes to MGO. :)

dont be sorry!
I hope people post their thoughts and remain civil about it. I really like this game for what it is, and I think showing positive support will help us get the changes we want rather than being upset, so I encurage others to do the same. Stay positive and just talk about the things you would like to see added to the game. Its still a beta for us PC players so we should have an oppertunity to speak out.
