Close Quarters-Take Downs And Interrogation Mechanics - Guidance Needed
Greetings.

I am in the first mission and I am still learning (wresting!) the controls. I am having difficulty with close quarter combat, so here I am.....

I assume I need the bionic arm equipped as a primary weapon to initiate a takedown. The sequence is "hold the left mouse button, then press the attack button." This grabs and chokes the adversery which in turn initiates a menu in which I can interrogate, render unconsious, or kill. Is that correct?

It seems I could not uderstand the guy I was interrogating due to a language barrier, so I researched and discovered I need to locate some interpretors in later missions? As for choking an adversary out, there is a circular shaped icon with arrows with a mouse moving up and down. I assume I am to hold the indicated button and move my mouse up and down? I did attempt that, but I could not get that to work. Perhaps I was not chloking long enough (how long does it take?) or it could be due to my mouse; I am using a trackball mouse. Any thoughts?

Also, how are surrendeing guards handled? I have no idea. I thought I had put a guy down and he kept getting up and coming after me. Which leads me to ask about hand-to-hand combat, does it exist in the game? If so, how do those mechanics work?

I don't mind so much learning the interface as I go, but if I fumble about while trying to learn the interface and I am killed it sets me back quite a bit to start over.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for me?

A sincere "thanks" for any help.

To grab a guard, press and hold the left mouse button when you're close enough to him. This works with any weapon equipped. From here, you can hold Q to interrogate him, tap left clicks to render him unconscious or press E to perform a silent kill.

For cqc, you can tap left click to do a series of punches. I think you can do more moves (take the gun from the guard), but I don't know how to do that.

If it isn't clear, you have to repeatedly tap the left click to choke a guard out when you have him in a grab. Takes like 3 seconds. You don't need bionic arm equipped for anything except the running punch.

To get a guard to surrender approach them with a weapon pointed at them without them being alerted by sight/sound. Basically means walking up right behind them quietly, or as they try to get up off the ground. You have to tell them to get down or they will probably shoot you in the back. Sometimes you can't tell them to get down, they might be reaching for a sidearm so just cqc them. They will get up from a surrendered state if found by another guard or you get a combat alert.

I play on a controller but for an extra controls:

RB or Left click while moving slams them to the ground, rendering them stunned.

RB or Left click over body to wake up/knock them out when you hold them up and tell them to "Get Down"

If you knock a soldier out but you wanted to interrogate him, using left click (CQC) will kick him awake. If you have your gun aimed at him he'll 'surrender' and you're given the interrogation menu.

Remember you have to have an interpreter on your staff that speaks the language of the guy you are interrogating. Early game this is Russian, and when you get to Africa it tends to be Afrikaans.

Another way to do CQC other than grabbing from behind is to tap then hold LMB from the front, which can also work as an alternative to going loud in close quarters Reflex Mode activation.

What this move does is instantly disarm the enemy, and he will immediately go into CQC compliance, as you're holding his gun aimed at him. Then you just hold Q and pick a command.

Another tactic for quickly dealing with lots of enemies, but assuring you're not seen hiding them in toilets or dumpsters, or having them wake up elsewhere, is a quick or hard knock out.

Quick knock outs are one tap of the LMB from cover as they approach. Hard knockouts, which keeps them out longer, are 5 taps of LMB while standing as they approach.

You can then just go kick each one in the order you knocked them out (after placing them out of sight if necessary), and point a weapon at them, which automatically makes them stay laying down.

Any enemy in "Get Down" status by the above method or using the CQC command for it, will stay that way until another guard sees them or an alert is raised.
