Camouflage at night
Is it worth putting any camouflage on at night? Will the MGS3 camo hide me even better in the greenery at night or is it basically the same with any other camo bar the Ocelot one?

Depends the area. Whatever you do, don't bring stealth suit or battle suit, since guards will easily spot you with that.

By stealth suit, are you talking about the thing with silent footsteps? I used it at first but then swapped to the camo stuff because I thought it looked cooler. So just to confirm what you're saying, greenery/sandy camouflage still helps with keeping you better hidden at night as long as you're in the appropriate area?

Stealth Suit only eliminates footsteps so the guard only look behind you if you're very very close at them. The suit has no bonus towards any camo index, but it is intended to make high end nightvision won't detect your position and will do better job if stealth mask equipped, which is intended for PvP in FOB battle (Only available for disposable personnel except Big Boss or other important playable protagonists).

Yes, camo does help even at night. Some areas at night are well lit and you'll be spotted almost as easily as if it were daytime.

Basically stay out from the damn light in night time. There's a reason why blasting or turning off generator power is a great idea to explore the area with ease.

You can also immobilize one of guard who checks the generator as well.

Won't CP realise that the guard hasn't checked in, though, and then the base will go on alert? Or do you mean immobilise him after he checked in and is in the process of turning the power back on? I guess I always assumed he turns the power on and then checks in.

Yeah that actually occurred to me after, when I was sneaking in a lit area in Serak Power Plant, but still that's nice to know that even without light there's an effect so I think I'll stick with camo, thanks.

Stealth Suit = Great at Night \ bad at day.
Camo = Great at day

Okay, hear me out carefully.

First, be sure wait until the guard reports to CP that he'll checking the generator when he's near the generator. Once he done talking, either kill or restrain the guard.

Wait until the guard stops talking (When he said "Over.", the HQ will start talking, and to that point you can finally do something about the guard without raising alert), otherwise disturbing the mid communication will raise the caution alert instantly.

And you can keep turning the generator on and off again after each guard (or let the guard turn it back on before you deal with them) and they'll keep coming until there's no one left to check it.

Although i dont really understand why would you lower it even more

camo is very confusing and borderline useless outside of FOBs tbh, especially since they removed the camo index indicator.

You're better off running stealth suit all the time.

soft alerts are so nothing that it barely matters

I'm gonna have to disagree with the person saying camo is useless (quote won't work)
You'll get spotted from quite afar if you have just the sneaking suit, without camo, even in the.. "campaign". Whilst, if wearing the proper camo for the area you're located (desert, redsand desert, rocky terrain, etc) they'll have a harder time spotting you.
The MGS3 Camo won't hide you any better than vanilla camo, altough it does offer both greenery and sand camo, and Ocelot's division uniform is perfect during the night, but if you're gonna sneak into a base during the night, you might as well get the sneaking suit.

Altough im over two weeks late, I hope this helped.
