METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Chico Theory [spoilers]
So i looked and googled and search youtube and no one has mentioned this for some reason. Wondering what others might think. Also keep in mind there is cut chico content in 5, so we will never know the whole story.

It is a simple connection, but a very early clue.
Chico is white. Amanda is white. Paz is white. Yes they are south americans, but they are ethnically white in peace walker. They were created with blond hair and blue eyes. Chico also has a scar on his right cheek.

But in GZ he doesnt, and he is not white. In fact he randomly just looks like someone closer to what you might imagine when you think of the name Chico. Rescuing him was the first moment in GZ that i felt something was off. That was NOT chico. The devs wouldnt have just... forgot what chico looked like. Paz looked the same so... at first I just thought it may have been a redesign, which really makes no sense. Chico's ethnicity is a very small detail in his story. He is more nationalist than anything, he never talks about his appearance.

Chico in GZ also has a wound in his chest from his headphone jack. It isnt said how he got it, or why. Some think he did it himself, others thing it was part of the torture. I disagree. IMO it is a metaphor. I think it's safe to say that GZ was a virtual mission, and that BB was just part of venoms hypnosis. That explains why chico looks different, because it was literally just some fake image made up for the exercise. Venom wouldn't know the dif. But snake would. Snake LOVED those kids.

So my theory is that the headphone jack wound being near his heart is symbolic. It is the music that is going INTO his heart. What does venom collect? Cassette tapes. Why? Snake never talks about the 80s, never mentions music like that... It is a new mechanic to collect them, only venom does this. Why? I think it is because in his hypnosis, venom was taught to have love for paz and chico. that is absolutely proven by how he acts in GZ. But, there are many holes in the hypnosis, and the music is one of them. Chico may have even been the one leaving those tapes around the areas of TPP but that would have been cut content. His boss fight might have even had to do with music.

I think the 80s music is how snake shows through venom's hypnosis. The wound in his chest is a clue that the music is close to snakes heart, metaphorically not physically. He loved chico almost like a son. When chico died, if he even died (amanda even says that heli was NO place for chico to die- take that literally, it was NO place for him to die AKA he may not have died there, also proven via cut content designs that would have had him be alive in TPP) venom needed a realistic reaction to that. But, venom lacked the reasoning that snake had for WHY he loved those kids so much. That made venom manifest snakes feelings for chico as music. Listening to the music is as close as snake can get to being with chico again. close to his heart. Chico may also have been symbolically "listening to his heart" in GZ aka trusting in his feelings which is what got him captured. Then it appears as a wound, so thats just some characterization storytelling for chico, he was a heavily emotional kid due to who his father was.

These were meant to be clues to venoms identity all the way back in GZ. I believe GZ and TPP were meant to be one game, and GZ would have had a lot more content tying into TPP such as what really happens to chico that causes him to turn into the man seen in his concept art.

Anyway, a small detail, but I havent seen anyone else mention the extremely obvious redesign for him, and thats my theory! A game theory.

I theory crafted a design for the boss fight. It would be similar to quiet, you have the choice to recruit or kill and if you kill quiet this would allow you another reason to learn about the parasites without quiet, because chico would have them. He is dressed like a scout, and seems to be mutated. He may be immune to fire now, and his only weapons seem to be very close range. This makes no sense as a boss, so he may actually be more of a stealth bomber. He would use his fire resistance to throw grenades and gases as venom, while hiding in a red mud field or mountain. In order to beat him, you could play love deterrence on your idroid, and then use the binocs long range mic to listen for him in the area. He may be camouflaged so the only tell would be him saying Paz's name or whispering comforting secrets to himself when he hears the song that reminds him of Paz. Using the sound of his voice as a way to locate him would allow you to attack, meanwhile you would have to avoid his gas mines and grenades. If you go up close, after you hit him he would drop a stun grenade and retreat, and try to take a swipe at you with his melee weapon.

Chico was planned to have a comeback but got cut along with the some original chapter 2 stuff (Kingdom of Flies) and the majority of original chapter 3. Basically he is supposed to be the melee version of Quiet.

He is presumed dead like the actual game but he is actually alive so Amanda wanted Snake to kill him (like what she would want to do in PW when he got captured)
Like Quiet. Snake can choose to kill or recruit him. I suppose this would be Chico PW's plot all over again but he would have get his redemption this time

Some people say this could connect him with Grey Fox but I don't buy it at all. Grey Fox should be a late game character from the original chapter 3 if Kojima wanted to make his origin story.

holy shat that connects a lot of dots, chico was planned to be in the game and this is how kojima might have intentionally intended him to work. Though i still don't understand his reasoning in cutting chico and adding in a useless character like quiet. I truly believe mgs v would have been as content heavy as death stranding but the conditions and company were not favourable , heck the budget they used to make the engine, then pt and the mgs v is way to low for such levels of quality

I like it.

My head canon has always been that Venom is Chico, and that the medic backstory is ''doublethink''. They started with a blank template, the best soldier, selfless-medic, instead of trying to unpack all the ♥♥♥♥ Chico went through in GZ to wash a new mental profile onto.

The kid blew the op (GZ), spilled his guts a second time, and now he gets to be punished Snake.

It's a total stretch but it works with some of the themes between BB and Chico throughout PW/GZ.
