S-rank Sucks
S-rank is so time based that it totally sucks. Often it's much easier to get the S-rank than to complete all the objective without getting detected.

You can set off all kinds of alerts, kill people and get shot and still get an S-rank if your time is fast. Yet, if you do the difficult thing and extract every soldier, prisoner and resource you get punished for taking too long.

Moreover, often getting an s-rank involves exploiting some hole in the mission. It makes it cheap.

I haven't played metal gear games before mgs4. Was it always like this?

Try S-rank no-trace.

And what one has to do with the other? What game development has to do with gaming here?
S-ranking DOES suck in this game, no doubting that.

S-rank in this game is a litle crap yeah but set your own challenges and ignore the ratings.

Thanks. Usually, when I search for YouTube videos of missions I search for s-rank and it's usually a cheap exploit. But I found a video where the guy took forever but he got the 20K perfect stealth bonus. All together with the no reflex, no alerts, no retries, no kills it's 45K bonus. That is usually enough to make up for the time penalty.

So, maybe Perfect Stealth is the answer. But no-trace is nearly impossible.

agree, there is too much accent on how fast you can do mission that in 99% cases it is not worth to do any tasks but to barebone do the mission.

even on alert, if you are fast you will get S-rank

I get the point, you are mercenary who works for money, so doing each mission faster is more productive for company, but for gameplay it is weird. Makes it really boring to play for S-ranks, just rush it and don't pay attention to anything else but main task, and how to exfiltrate very fast (aka find container)

Is 68,000 the minimum time bonus? I saw a few playthroughs where the person took forever but still got 68,000. If that's the case you may be able to get s-rank by completing all the objectives, perfect stealth.

Yeah doing a lot of objectives at once usually gives you an S too, unless you take like 20 shots. For example, I was doing Extreme Code Talker this afternoon, took my sweet time to kill all the skulls, did all the objectives after that, extracting Code Talker very slowly and one patrol at a time, and still got the S. I'm not sure if the skulls count against the perfect stealth, but I was in a tank (needed two tanks actually) and didn't take any hit on myself during the whole mission.

I think he means it is, in fact, too easy to get an S. Not the oposite. But that would require reading the OP and as we all know reading is overrated in this day and age.

it felt harder to get S-rank in Ground Zeroes, I kinda feel they nerfed the game so most people could reach S-ranks.

for example, people who have like 10 years of experience in tactical games will do S-rank with ease, but relative newbies will struggle, so I guess this is result of community feedback from GZ.

for me only problematic S-rank was Code Talker [EXTREME], fighting with Skulls takes too much time cause they one-shot you every time, so rushing with D-Horse was the answer, took me lots of tries cause they are so damn accurate, and if I don't go yolo and spend time planning I end up with A-rank.

Tanks. Tanks are the answer. I got S-rank + all objectives in one go just yesterday.

yeah I tried that, takes time to fight Skulls cause I play World of Tanks a lot, I just make a mess cause I get confused with shell velocity and trajectory and I just kinda decided not to do it that way.
Tank mechanic is decent in MGSV, not like trucks and jeeps.

Stealing a tank in OKB Zero and going all in yolo was fun tho, easiest S-rank ever
