METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Why are the platforms on mother base so spaced out?
Maybe I'm not far enough through the story yet (just did mission 20) but on mother base you have to drive ~1km from the command platform to the R&D platform, same goes for all the other platforms.
Is it for defence due to the incident that happened in the prelude to MGS V, is it a show-off of 'open world' or will the big spaces be used in future?

its so they could display platfroms further from each other and you wouldnt see the reduced detail in the distance that much

Game-wise its to make an invasion or attack easier to deal with, as the old Motherbase platforms were close together and as such an attack was very easy to spread.

Engine-wise... maybe it was done to keep the performance high from not needing to display so much at the same time, who knows.
You can also call for the heli (free of GMP charge) or use the Delivery Point system to move between the different Units.

How does the delivery point system work? I've seen it on my map, tried looking at it (in person) and using the codec at no avail (seriously, in MGS3 there was a codec call for every type of animal or plant found, every type of enemy, every weapon, everything really. One major let down of this game for me. I could understand minimising the codec in Peace Walker since it was originally fir the PSP (but is better on the Vita), even then I feel there were more cutscenes; but I digress.

You put a box over your head and sit on the point; a 'truck' will come and pick you up.

"Next-Gen" console nonsense. Same reason Skyrim and Fallout 4 are designed to have rubble and mountains placed in front that seemingly make no sense.

No. It was Kojima's way of telling us to stop being couch/desk potatoes and go out for a walk.
OF COURSE, you could just get in a box and be delivered to the platform of your fancy.
