FOM decoy is definitely a unique item, which I'm not going to use and won't bother developing because it's only good for PvP, and I no longer fight defenders. It's the same as it happened with WH Gen; I haven't developed it because I don't need it.
The new UAV. I would develop it anyway sooner or later because it's more durable than *8. It's not a weapon I can atively use.
My complaints (that I consider justified, of course) are about *10 MRS, ALM and UN-ARC NL. We got *9 versions of them last time (2.5 months ago), and we got them again this time. I say "again" because, there are no model changes and no new customization parts, only slightly raised stats, costs and development time. UN-ARC NL is just like the new UAV - only for security.
Swimsuits are useless for me because they don't fit in aesthetically (well, maybe under waterfalls they might look good), and the speedboost they give is again useless for me as I'm already playing as an athlete and as a climber.
What about the weapons that are stuck at *5 and *7? What about the lethal UN-ARC or AM114-9 LB pistol, Renov, M2000-D rifle, PG and SVG rifles? At the end of the day I got nothing of what I hoped for. Maybe in 2.5 months we'll get another MRS and another ALM with slightly raised stats, and people are going to start compaining again.
swimsuits do make your guards run faster. just do a Freedom From Oppression FOB event, go on alert, and you can see that the swimsuited guard run faster.
FOM decoy is a nice new device. it totally works. i've been deceived myself by some defenders using it.
I actually googled "military swimsuits" to see if it's a thing and all I got were camo-patterned bikinis.
The platform is in the ocean, yes, but unfortunately there are no soldiers with a swimmer perk. Even Snake dies if he dives into water deeper than his anckle. So if nobody can swim, how do I have to imagine that I infiltrated from the water? And how did I get up there? There are no ladders. Should I disregard that too, along with the chopper?
The swimsuits seem to me more like a cheap "sex-sells" marketing trick.
If that was true they wouldn't be free... theyd be paid DLC like the Tux is. On another note, according to the website they plan on releasing more colors for them as part of events so in a sense I am thankful that that means continued support for the game.
Marketing includes giving out free stuff to make people more interested, spend more time in game; it increases the potential that players will spend more money. Meanwhile, in MGO the swimsuits cost 500 MB coins per each class.
Okay, you're saying that MGS games are full all sorts of mumbo-jumbo devices non-existent in real life, and the series has no consistent tone, so any kind of bs would fit in. They could've added clown suits too, and they would perfectly fit in, right?
Well that's the part of my point, that MGS deals with issues like genocide and child soldiers right next to goofy stuff like HoJ, cardboard boxes or decoys. They break immersion.
I like the serious part of the game, where swimsuits don't fit in.
You just have to get used to the Kojima-isms.
And I'm sure if they make more Metal Gear games they'll continue to have goofy stuff.
I understand that. I would never say that this kind of mix prevents me from enjoying the game. But for now, as long and as far as the game allows to exclude the silly stuff, I will do it. That's the way I like to play it now. Minimal loadouts, and no silly or unrealistic stuff (including markings and some other elements of HUD).
I really don't think that adding swimsuits was initially Kojima's (or any of the original developers') idea, because his ideas usually seem smarter. It looks more like something someone else came up with later.
Their usefulness is kind doubtful. I have vehicles, D-horse and D-walker to travel faster in free roam, and I don't run much in FOBs. Also I can use Raiden suit.
It's also a little underexplained (as it is not most of the time with Kojima's ideas), I mean, the DD staff members run identically wearing combat fatigues or battledress, with heavy-looking CGM or with seemingly light Renov on their back, but wearing a swimsuit somehow makes them faster?
And on top of that I can't look at a character who's crawling along (or diving on) concrete floor on an FOB without scratching his/her elbows, knees and chest.
I think part of it is just a gameplay thing. I think it boils down to whether or not gamers would complain if there was a slowdown based on equipment for instance.
I agree that the swimsuits are dumb. I would much rather have a more practical outfit.
