Also the flaming whale and the rest of the stuff you saw in the intro *was* literally just magic. Big Boss' adventures have always had the odd bit of mysticism though.
No, those were actual physical beings doing actual things.
You could maybe debate whether it really was *as* fantastical as Venom (we) saw it. Nobody else seemed too awestruck by the giant sky-whale.
Then they put some magic parasite on her skin which gives her those abilities.
And Metal Gear always have "supernatural" stuff on it. Both, the floating boy and the man on fire are real.
Quiet has the same Parasites (or rather modified) as The End which includes Photosynthesis and possibly enhanced vision (sniping skills). There is a bit where Code Talker (who has these Parasites too) goes on about how the Cobra unit had these parasites. I also think Quiet is infected with the Vocal one as well as sort of a counter measure so she doesn't talk (aka leak information).
Personally with the MGS series theres always the direct explenation and a indirect one... an example of this is Liquid Ocelot... The direct one is that he 'hypnotised' himself... the indirect one is that he inheritted Medium (talk to the dead) genes from his Father, the Sorrow... Kojima leaves a lot up to the players imagination with some of the lore and such.
Its the subtle little hints and such that make this series so great XD
quiet was created on MGSV, you can discover everything about her by playing it! :)
listen to the tapes!
