METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Please Help: Phantom Pain is GARBAGE on PC
The games options will not allow me to push a resolution anywhere past 1366x768 UNLESS i set the settings to "Windowed Mode" (which....no. Just no. Never doing that, the white bar at the top always puts me off). I looked everywhere to solve this but nobody seems to know why I even have this problem.
IF that's not enough, the aliasing is GARBAGE, jagged lines everywhere where there's a straight edge.

I tried forcing anti-aliasing through the NVIDIA control panel but it DOESN'T WORK, the result is always the same, my eyes are bombarded with chainsaw-like movement in every single outline in the background, jagged lines crawling on every surface, it just hurts to look at and I can't play through it despite how amazing the game is (I've beaten most of the game on play station 4 and it looked amazing there).

For PC I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with the drivers updated as far as I can update them, and still i have NO ANTI-ALIASING and NO screen resolution passed 1366x768.

I don't know what to do.

I have NEVER had this problem before with ANY game before this. Ground Zeroes runs BEAUTIFULLY on the same PC with no noticeable issues, but the PHANTOM PAIN is the complete opposite. I keep hearing that it looks better if I use DSR on 1440p but I don't know what that means or how I do that and nobody will tell me. I'm a layman but I tried everywhere I could. I really tried, guys. Please Help.:steamsad:

- open nvdia control panel
- go to Manage 3d settings
- on the general tab:
look for *DSR Factors*
activate it 1.50, 1.78..etc
- click apply

should fix your prob in-game.
go to options and select desired resolution.

Whatever people say, I finished this game on a 2010 laptop (Asus N53JQ) with 30 fps on medium, meaning no other game did that. This is an awesome port, yeah it could be better with PC controls but it wasn't an issue. Just saying.

Try going into TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG (open with notepad) and manually change the resolution to the native resolution of your display. Said config file should be located at Steam\userdata\youruserdataid\287700\local.

I'm not sure what you're talking about but it doesn't seem to be about anti-aliasing my dude.

Works like a gem. Thanks. Now I just need to figure out the aliasing issue.

I did all that before making this post, and as I explained in the post it didn't work at all. I tried settign the application settings to match the global settings and it still doesn't work.

I wanna thank everyone who's replied so far with the intention of helping me out! This was a desperate move on my part since I don't like using up anyones time if it isn't necessary, so THANK YOU all so much for responding.

In addition to the above comments - if you have installed Nvidia GeForce - it will select your game (as TPP has its own GeForce optimisation) and gives you the best settings for your hardware.

No problem. As for the issue with aliasing, it might be because the game uses a rather weak implementation of FXAA. Unfortunately, there's no way to force better AA, so the only means of reducing aliasing is using DSR to render at a higher resolution.

How would I do that? I went into the control panel of Nvidia and set the "global settings" to have DSR Factors to 1.50x the native resolution and 4x the native resolutin. Still no noticable difference in the aliasing.
The problem with all the jagginess is a little lower thanks to the resolution fix (the resolution is just MMM so fresh) but otherwise nothing I do on the control panel seems to fix the aliasing.
THere are NO DSR SETTINGS visible on the phantom pain application settings when I browse for them on the NVIDIA control panel. I wish I had a picture as evidence to support that claim but You'll have to take my word on them. DSR settings don't exist on the Phantom Pain. They don't.

- DSR settings are only set on the global Nvidia settings. The individual game tabs don't show it, since it is a GLOBAL setting.
- DSR is so you can set various resolutions in-game. i have a 1600x900 monitor and use the 1.50x setting (1960x1102) resolution in The Phantom Pain because anything higher makes the enemies too small to aim for.
- the jagginess should be fixed by setting all the in-game Phantom Pain option graphics settings to: Extra High

DSR is a global setting; there is no per game setting. All enabling DSR does is adds higher than native rendering resolutions to the list of selectable resolutions for most games. Since you were having trouble increasing the resolution in-game, you'll have to go into TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG and set the resolution to your DSR resolution. You should also be able to apply the DSR resolution via Geforce Experience, if I'm not mistaken.

The AA doesn't get better on the higher settings. It's FXAA or nothing at all.

yeah, i know. i have no problems with the game, it looks fantastic to me, almost photo realistic.

there's something blocking his game from accessing the nvidia settings if he has to go thru the .config file.

do that then make sure you do this. this will guarantee so solve your performance problems. others users on this thread at issues to and this works. 100 percent.

Go to the configurations folder: Steam\userdata\17290442\287700\local
Open file TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG with notepad
Change the line "framerate_control": "Auto" to "framerate_control": "Variable"
Save the file.

now go enjoy in max graphics settings with 60fps @4k.
