MGSV crashes my PC?
So, for all intents and purposes, this game should not be crashing my PC. I mean, my CPU isn't up to snuff (see my specs below), but I played through the game just fine with the same specs with no problems just a few months ago. Now that I decide to start up a new playthrough, however, my PC seems to be acting up, and after only a few minutes, my PC crashes while playing. It doesn't matter what the graphics settings are set to or what the resolution is. Is it maybe a driver-related issue?

System Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
GPU: AMD Radeon R7 370 Gigabyte Windforce 2GB
CPU: Intel i5-3340 3.10 GHz Quad Core
RAM: 12 GB

I had the same problem as you, I'm not sure what the problem is but I know it's to do with win 10 somehow, I tried a fresh install of win 10 on a different hdd and it's fine now, but it's not an efficient way to fix it. I'm sure there is a better way to fix it but all I can do to help is explain what happened with mine.

Anybody else got a different fix? I am playing through the full series (chronologically), and not being able to play MGSV is really hurting that fact :P

I've experienced the same issue, it's the main reason I stopped playing, as much as I love the game. Unlike Chube, formatting didn't help at all, I've even tried downgrading to windows 7 to no avail. I'm getting a new rig in a week or so, the most I could help you with is let you know if the issue was a rig related one or not. Good luck

I'm really hoping it isn't rig related. My rig has a history of crashing while playing certain games, and MGSV used to be one of those games before a driver update. I'm hoping it's driver related again, but if not...

Just reporting back to say that nothing has been fixed so far, which sucks. Turning down the graphics settings isn't working, underclocking my GPU isn't working, upping how much power goes to my GPU isn't working, my GPU isn't overheating (nor are my CPUs), etc.

If you've tried formatting and still no luck, I would start to think the problem may be hardware related...

Does it crash with any other games?

Does it crash to desktop or does your PC BSOD?

Very, very infrequently it has BSOD with a loud buzzing noise. More often it just crashes to desktop. I have some ideas.

1. Don't use any extra overlay software like MSI Afterburner or Fraps to see FPS. Use the built in Steam one. At least at launch don't have extra software like that running. After you get to your ACC you can ALT+TAB out and launch that software, but I believe by merely ALT+TABing you're compromising the stability of your game. After a while you should get a feel for what the proper settings for your configuration is to get 45-60 FPS most of the time. For your card I'd suggest 1080p max settings EXCEPT FOR Shadows and Post Processing; keep those at least one notch down from max. This works well with my 380 4GB. For a 2GB card you may want to keep shadows and texture settings on medium.

2. Close the AMD Gaming Evolved app. It can get bugged where it uses way to much CPU % or otherwise crashes games. I remember clearly not being able to play the original Bioshock (2007) because of this program.

3. If you're struggling to get through the 1P game because of instability, consider playing in offline mode. Konami/Steam servers can cause instability and long loading screens waiting for packets.

1. I get a kind of BSOD, except I get a black screen instead. Also, I use Steam's overlay to see the FPS.
2. It stays closed anyway, unless I'm trying to test to see if my GPU is overheating.
3. I've played the game before; back from December to about April I had a run going, and it only crashed every so often. This is why I'm so confused about these crashes.

See, I got to thinking that it might be my rig, but MGSV: Ground Zeroes didn't crash my PC, and MGSV:PP didn't crash my PC either back when I was doing my playthrough of it back from December to April. I seriously wanna know why specifically now I'm having these issues.

As a note, it actually did crash my PC several times, but those were all driver related and were fixed with a driver update. I can't seem to find the specific drivers that I downloaded earlier though, so I can't see if it's once again caused by a driver issue.

MGS:GZ didn't crash on my old pc either, so I don't think that necessarily suggests anything. Its pretty weird given that they use the same engine, but what you're describing is exactly what happened to me.

Known driver issues and all?

I don't quite recall, it was either a game patch or a driver, but after it the game just started crashing all the time

Well, my point was that my PC has a known history of crashing due to driver issues with games, MGSV being the primary case in point here. Getting a new build is kind of out of the question right now, so I'm a little curious at the prospect that only a few specific driver versions could run the game for me. Before the first January driver update it crashed frequently, and then stopped almost entirely afterward. Now, a good five to ten driver updates since I last played the game, it all of a sudden crashes again.

if there is BSOD-like situation, you can use prog called "Bluescreenview" for cricital errors debugging. There will be one or more modules (exe, dll) which probably cause this trouble.
And Windows event journal can be helpful too, just filter it to "errors/critical" and see entries by the time the stuff happened.

If it is something power loss or kernel exception, it may be your hardware, probably PSU.
