METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Now I understand why Konami fired Kojima [spoilers]
From mechanical standpoint, the core of the game is a really nice and well-performing military sandbox. The part Kojima was responsible for - the story of the game - is absolutely horrible. The first half goes from nowhere to nowhere, incoherend jumbled rambling of a man who is supposed to write a story, but has probably nothing to say. The only part of the story I liked was the Quiet character, and even that was a bit too thick with pathos and thin with everything else. Don't know where to go next? Sure, let's have a zombie apocalypse!

The second part of the game - is not there. Konami probably found out that after several years and 80 millions (was it 80 millions?) of costs, the game is still just half done, and so they did what every sane company would do - fired the guy and switched to damage control - that is to pretend that the game is actually ready - which is most definitely not. The second half is just padding, recycled missions from the first half with increased difficulty, and that's it.

So, it's half fraud, half train-wreck, but most importantly it's hilarious, especially if you find fanboi who argue that the game is in fact complete.

It should have been Kojima's swan song, but it's a rubber ducky instead.

Well, if you call copypasting old content "missions", then okay. The story, however, is beyond horrible and fizzles out into thin air. That, my friend, is a fact.

Not to increase the flames of internet arguing but calling something horrible is the worst way to call something fact. Unless you are one of those types who has the magical ability to turn opinion into fact.

The gameplay is rock solid because of the stuff it allows you to do and how well they merge and work toghether. Allows for so much replayability. Wich is why the game has a solid score.
If i am to compare it to other MGS's. This is my favorite, so it did not fail.
MGS3 being after this.

I'd buy that.
TPP gameplay is fantastic, the story isn't bad enough to crap on.
Is good game, OP. Simmer down.
well, after balls grabing ♥♥♥♥ in mgs3 and naked raiden in 2 a little bit of eye candy for men is not as bad as some make it out to be

Not to mention that in MGS3, you actually get a close up of ___ (redacted for spoilers)'s crotch, and all they are wearing is a leather speedo. Beyond that, MGS is pretty much equal in terms of fanservice, in that females get about as much fanservice as men, except that the men's fanservice is usually more direct. As an example, in almost every MGS game beyond the original, the Snakes have a very... defined buttocks. Even in MGSV, where you directly see Ishmael's buttocks and crack.

I can agree with this..
I thought the characters we're AMAZING....
(This is my very 1st Metal gear game since the very 1st metal gear on NES or SNES. I forget.

BUt I thought Ocelot is so awesome and the voices,,personalities and look and overall demeanor of All the characters were awesome.. BUT they weren't used well at all...
**This whole thing with the 'Medic' is just lame borderline mental.
the thought " TOO CLEVER' comes to mind..The charcters and organizations are supposed to be PMF(Plotting MoFo's) Not the actual comprehension of the story...
-Once I got the whole story down= I was pretty annoyed and had a feeling of letdown..

--WTF! a UN Nuclear inspection team arrives for the most sensitive possible infiltration to motherbase and Snake is in Cuba...!!! Umm!!
-And Skullface was just hoping(fingers crossed) that Zero pricked himself on the pin..this seems like a mediocre method..I guess it all worked out for him..
-And why did Psyco Mantis turn on Skull face..Was Pscyco Mantis even working with Skull Face
.Psyco Mantis was at the hospital when BB/medic awoke from Coma and attacked the XOF..
I assume it was SkullFace XOF.

~~But this is my 1st Metal Gear Solid so I think this kind of Story is the norm..I have seen a lot of the story of The PS3 MGS Guns of Patriots..Man, I bought that on sale and never played it..
0Am I missing something special, or just let it go?

----So bottom line~ If Hidio didn't develop/create the missions, development, mother base upgrading, the FOB,,The tier 1-9 weapons and gear,,pretty much all the RPG parts we love about this game like kidnapping instead of killing to improve MB..if None of this is Hideo then I've been wrongfully backing him this whole time...
It still sickens me what the Sony Rep told a friend of mine who manages a gamestop about Konami 'SHAMING' Hideo and taking ti to questionable levels like taking away his desk and office etc....

**Disclaimer- I love this game and I'm well over 700-800 hours..destroying my record of longest non MMO gaming record. Formely held by Fallout Vegas..Oblivion and Vegas were only like 150 hours,,peanuts compaired to this..i still rank the game as elite!

Yeah it's a good game but it has a very outlandish storyline full of plot holes and overall boring. Could of been great but it was only ok.

From a newcomer's perspective, I'm sure the story is great. But from someone who actually follows the story of Metal Gear, the story is quite unsatisfactory. Almost everything the plot set out to do was done better in Peace Walker (the game before it), and it just muddled the story even more with several retcons that were pointless when you really think about it. Kojima, the great man that he is, did stir up controversy almost exclusively to sell the game, and while I do think Konami went too far in covering up things, I do think Kojima was a little out of hand. The budget given to him really was too much, at least for what Metal Gear is about. On the other hand, though, by having a basic story it was easier to introduce to the public in an easy to digest way. The only problem there, lies in that he could have instead recreated the first Metal Gear (possibly even the first two Metal Gears - the MSX duo), which have relatively simple stories, yet gameplay-wise could be expanded.

With everything said and done, I love MGSV. However, I wouldn't place it anywhere near my top list of MGS games. MGSV, for all it does right, does a ton wrong for someone who had great expectations going into it. Really and truly, the series should have ended with MGS3, maybe Peace Walker if I stretch things. MGS4 onwards seems like an afterthought - and for good reason, Kojima has been wanting to end the franchise for decades now, with each game designed to be the last one, with the only exceptions being MGS3 and Peace Walker.

I do think the OP is being a bit rediculous, though. Kojima definitely didn't deserve what he got - he put his heart and soul into each game up until MGSV, and even if they weren't masterpieces (MGS4's story in particular seemed to really scream "I want this series to end"), they still had a feel to them that MGSV is just... lacking. Peace Walker, which I consider to be a better-yet-worse version of MGSV, is probably the better game story-wise, and if you can get past the not-yet-complete gameplay (which is pretty much just a lesser version of MGSV's gameplay), I'd recommend playing that over MGSV if you ever decide to do a chronological run-through of the series (not to mention that, excluding Peace Walker's 5th Chapter, it's a much shorter game).
