METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Game resolution stuck on 1280x720 and fullscreen just not working.
My game is stuck on 1280x720 resolution and it wont let me change it to anything else.
I have tried changing the settings manually inputting my resolution and it still only wants to work in 1280.
I have reinstalled the game that solved nothing, along side deleting the game settings in the folder.
This prevents me from having a decent experience in the game thanks to it looking incredibly blurry.

Hey.

Dude we need details. Is is a card that only has 2G VRAM or something where it cannot go above that because there's no texture space? You don't mention and see weirded out that you can't so I'll assume that's not it, but you do need to give details when you want help from strangers.

Well, ♥♥♥♥. That sucks.

My first guess is you hexedited mgsvtpp.exe to force ultrawide resolution, and my second is the config file set to read-only or immutable (does windows have extended ACLSs without grouppolicies?) and the game can't save the changes. Because what you describe isn't possible in a normal scenario.

Steam itself and the game and everything under it should be running as your user account, but if "manually inputting" means what I assume it does, you're saying you edited TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG and changed the videoout_setting section to a different resolution saved it then started the game and it's still not taking effect, I cannot imagine how, unless maybe you broke the XML formatting putting in an extra bracket or comma somewhere, or set it to a resolution the engine cannot handle.

BUT you said you deleted the config and let the game recreate it, so that takes care of my wonky file permissions or messed-up formatting hypothesis. And if you didn't hexedit the executable, well, I have no idea, then. For my peace of mind, verify something sane, let's say standard 1920x1080...

TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG
... "videoout_setting" : { "display_index" : 0, "framerate_control" : "Auto", "height" : 1080, "vsync" : "Disable", "width" : 1920, "window_mode" : "FullScreenWindowed" ...

Are you using any graphical replacement mods or anything that might make the game want to puke? I doubt that is it but I'm guessing blindly at this point.

Or let's just step through it - what happens when you're in the TPP interface, go to options, graphics. highlight resolution and press A / D and pick anything else, and press enter to save, say yes. Does it save? At that point alt-tab over to your file manager or explorer and verify the settings were saved in the TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG...

And one of those details things, you're not connected to the monitor via HDMI cable are you, but a proper DP or DVI cable, and the "monitor" isn't a HDMI television where you somehow set the input to 720p or something... again I know I know, but I'm guessing here.

This doesn't happen to people who don't hexedit their game. I've run it on 2012 hardware and 2022 hardware and everything in between.
