It takes place before even the first game. I think there is only a game or two that takes place prior to this. I kinda always wondered why I wasnt too lost when jumping into MGS5. Since I know a lot of ♥♥♥♥ happens in the stories.
I never played any other MGS game obviously besides I guess like 1 hour at a friends house back in the ps1 days.

I like this choice. I kinda hope they remake/reskin a lot of the older ones. And release them on PC. I know 2 and 3 are borderline impossible to find legally or with out an emulator (i think it was 2 and 3). Plus the dude who was the lead guy left the studio due to a falling out with the publisher, prolly for often going over budget and he wanted more freedom. So I'd expect them to do easy cash grabs of the series now.

This game is basically tying up all the loose ends of previous games. It's made almost entirely of references, setups, and explanations for every single game.

Mother Base and the FOBs resemble Big Shell from Metal Gear Solid 2. The Man on Fire is the Primary Antagonist from Metal Gear Solid 3, Eli is the primary from MGS1. Big Boss and Kazuhira had an entire thing going on in South America in the PSP title Peace Walker.

You're likely not going to get any joy for re-releases. Kojima left Konami. The rights will likely be left in purgatory, as Konami doesn't want to make games anymore. Look at the recent Castlevania remastering to see how low effort they really are.

It is a lengthy series, and well worth investing yourself into, despite the circumstances of the games right now. I would encourage

nah it'll be way different next time, hideo is gone, no one wants to touch it because it's "his", Konami has gone more into casino gambling and microtransaction phone games... they swear it's not the end of MG/MGS but... no one's going to care.

If they have any common sense remaining they'll "sell" (give) it to Kojima Productions and just take a percentage of profit of the sales, the exact same thing he wanted back when he was a regular salaryman and wanted... more.

Actually Revengeance takes place after MGS4 and is the last game in the franchise chronologically. Snake is already dead by the time the game takes place.

You have a few options for 2 and 3. the first is the most ideal, acquiring the PS2 expanded versions MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsistence. This will get you all the content. the XBOX version of MGS2 lacks the Skateboarding minigame, and there's no MGS3 on that platform.

MGS2, 3, and Peace Walker also came out on 360, PS3 and PS Vita as the HD Collection, though very weirdly, the Vita version lacks Peace Walker. Go figure. The 3DS Version of Snake Eater runs like ass, you'll get a solid 14 FPS, it's unplayable in my eyes.

It's impossible to acquire these games legitimately, no source you buy from will be putting money in the original developer's pockets, so I'm gonna say go ahead and pirate an abandoned game. Personally, I have a Vita, so I can run PSP games on it. Gonna be getting Peace Walker pretty soon, I've been looking forward to it for the longest time.

ye Id rather get it via an actual digital copy. And not play on an old system even if I had them. I hate low quality picture image. It has to be at least 1080p. Really bade image quality makes me focus too much on it lmao. An emulator might be fine, but Id rather just have the official way. I wont ever play the hand hold versions, unless theres one on PSP and they ported it. 3d I imagine never would be ported unless it was a remake. I do honestly hope they do a bunch of remakes at least of the main line series. Even if the OG DEV isnt with them anymore, as long as theyre not bad remakes. Otherwise ill just stick with what is on steam.

Man, you have got a problem my friend! No one is more into technical innovation and immersion than I am. I play on a 55" 4K OLED. I also have a 110" 1080p projector and an FW900. But I have no problem enjoying older games with low resolutions, whether 3D or 2D.

I just dont like low resolutions. But yeah I have issues I literally have aspergers lmao. Might not be a full excuse but w.e is in my brain focuses on really annoying details. Im the type of person to notice a piece of grass floating on the side of the screen. So a bunch of jagged edges flickering and moving around is just reallllllyyy annoying. I can get use to it and adept, but id really pref not to play anything under 1080p.. I play older games as well, but if it ever isnt a 16:9 res. Itll often be 4:3 which itll just have black bars and look fine on the monitor. Unless stretched, usually on pc theres always a way to get it at 4k. Im fine with blurry textures, its just them jagged edges. And dont say no one, I love immersion when I play skyrim, I make it so I have to literally take a bath other wise I might have a chance of getting sick every hour im dirty. Or if I end up choosing a religion I have to every so and now sit at a shrin and succc the dong of that god for a bit, other wise I lose the perks to that religion. Obviously no fast travel unless its by set locations kinda like in morrowind. and you pay a fair amount for those, which I then have something to make economy better and harder so stuff. Plus you can die of the cold heat :^)

I do the same thing when I play kingdom come deliverance. Anyways, I dont play on anything under a ps4/pc ive not touched a game under 1080p in ages. As theres almost always a way to make it "HD"
