LINGUA FRANCA - First interrogation (need interpreter as MB staff?)
Hi guys, I'm playing through the game again from scratch and I'm at the infamous LINGUA FRANCA mission. I can get all interrogations working just fine but I think it's not registering because I don't have the interpreter yet on my staff, meaning there's no translation for the first interrogation at the very beginning of the mission (when they tell the guard to bring him where the woman is). Am I missing something or is this simply a case of replaying the mission after I extract the interpreter?

You gotta extract all the interpreters available before doing this mission if you don't wanna be bothered, indeed.

Is there a way to extract an Afrikaans interpreter from a side-op before doing this mission then?
Because at this point I've done all side-ops in Africa (grand total of 3) and there is no side-op for an interpreter extraction available yet.

The mission itself presents an Afrikaans interpreter to you on a silver platter.

Fwiw otherwise: Listening to all 4 interrogations likes to bug out. Don't speed things up with the cigar or else the viscount might get stuck inside the ground. Don't replay the mission twice in a row or else the interpreter might skip interrogations 2 and 3 for no reason. Don't mark anyone during dialogue or Ocelot will interrupt with his witty commentary.

Ideally you rush to the first spot before the car arrives, follow the duo to each interrogation, and don't interact with anyone or anything until it's time to grab the viscount and leave.

That's the thing though: during the very first exchange, they only talk in Afrikaans so the interpreter doesn't translate to English since they're not talking to the prisoner. Since I don't have a translator myself, that small exchange is left untranslated... I'm wondering if that's the reason why it's not being added to my tally. I can hear all the others just fine, including the viscount's.

What I implied was: Yes, extract him and replay the mission later. I forget when the side-op for the other interpreter unlocks but can't be much later.

Again though, don't be shocked if the objective fails to register anyway. Supposedly it can even fail if you're too close to the house at the very end.

wait you think you can play MGS, any MGS not just V, by playing a mission once and being done with it? Wow. Different mentality I guess. Most people will play a dozen times before they're too bored and have every placement memorized to play them any further, but at least 3 or 4 times of each and every mission, especially the really difficult fox / foxhound rank (til you know what's up the odds are very against you doing that incidentally and in a timely manner in one pass.)

I'm pretty sure the Side Op "Extract the Afrikaans Interpreter" pops up once you've cleared PITCH DARK. Together with the "Legendary Gun Smith".

If it doesn't, for some reason, make your way to Bampeve Plantation and see if it activates that way.

Well, the way I prefer to play them is to do all tasks + S rank + perfect stealth on the first go if it's possible. Doesn't mean I won't do them again. If you enjoy doing the same mission 5 times to do all the tasks, that's your choice, just like being a condescending prick is.

Unfortunately the side-op appears after Lingua Franca (I guess in case you don't extract the interpreter during the mission itself).
Anyway I'll just play it again now that I'm 4/5 just to get all the interrogations. Thanks for your replies everyone!
