Importing Old Save File
Hi everyone,

I began a new playthrough of MGS5 and before I did, I backed up my saves from my 2017 game (My 287770 folder (Not my 311340 folder though!)). Note I played and completed MGS5 way before I actually played Ground Zeroes months and months later. I know 311340 is related to Ground Zeroes in some way so perhaps I didn't even have a 311340 at the time. I've never loaded Ground Zeroes data into my MGS5 game (Not even my new game where GZ data is available)

Anyway I've tried
- Disabled Steam Cloud through all of this

- Deleting the save data on my new game (I backed up up that save and have no trouble reverting back to it) and copy pasting my old save to 287700 and 311340 (Starts new game)

- Deleting save data, deleting the 311340 folder completely (Since no GZ at the time of the original save) and copy pasting old save to 287700 (At one point this gave me a 'loading save data' prompt when beginning a game - it said the files were corrupted. I put this down to me not copying the two supplementary files in 287700 at the time (Only the files in the 'local folder'). But I copied them over too and then it doesn't load the save and starts a new game. After deleting those extra files, I haven't been able to replicate the 'loading save file' prompt though. But obviously it could just mean my backup save is screwed and corrupt

- starting the game in offline mode where possible by declining the legal stuff at the beginning of a new game. Since presumably logging onto Konami servers may transmit cloud save data?

Now on my new save before I decided to revert back to my old save I got about 30% completion, earned a bunch of MP Coins and whatnot, did some Online dispatch missions etc...

I heard the only way to truly restart the game is to use an alt-account because the online currency will always be tied to you original Steam account. Do you think the cause of the problem could be I cannot transfer these funds from my new save to my old save? My account is associated with the new save (When I started the new game I had a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of resources which presumably carried over from my old game, but I'm guessing these resources won't transfer from new save > old save?)

Anyway sorry for the long post. Hopefully someone has some ideas they can give me here

Thanks!

TPP_GAME_DATA1 off the 287700 is used if you've never gone online.

The moment you go online, and I'm assuming you have in this, it will use the save file TPP_GAME_DATA off of the 311340 directory. Both files are the exact same as they are written out simultaneously, but for online play it uses 311340 even though that is supposed to be the GZ folder, so that is the one that must be replaced to restore an old save.

To ensure it works properly, overwrite or delete and copy in the save file to both locations. That's more of a safety caution, only the 311340 should be needed, but just to make sure, do both locations. Just be sure that 287700 is named TPP_GAME_DATA1 and 311340 is named TPP_GAME_DATA. Other than the file name, the files in both locations are identical.

Be sure to turn off Steam Cloud before you copy the files in. load the game, hit a checkpoint, after hitting a checkpoint in the game you can turn Steam Cloud back again. If you don't, you run the risk of the Cloud overwriting your game files with your other save.

Hey man thanks a lot for your suggestion

I did as you say so my folders are configured like

287700 > local
PERSONAL_DATA
TPP_CONFIG_DATA
TPP_GAME_DATA1
TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG

311340 > local
PERSONAL_DATA
TPP_CONFIG_DATA
TPP_GAME_DATA
TPP_GRAPHICS_CONFIG

(I am going online every time, with Steam Cloud turned off)

With this I was able to get the 'Loading Save Data' prompt again but again it says my save data is corrupt before beginning a new game. So I guess my old backup is just fubar :( Like I said I can move my current save files back into these folders and they boot up no problem. Don't mind replaying through the entire thing again (To 100% it), but I forgot how much it sucks having to harvest fuel resources!!

Yeah, can't do much about a corrupt save file. Corrupt is a bad file.

Although, if you wanted to start in a specific place, this may help you....

Thanks man. Feels a bit dirty using someone elses save but I'll probably break down and do it at some point!

Thank you very much I couldn't figure out why only importing 287700 folder would not work.
