There will be two separate games with their own application and download.
That being the first part: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
Then the second/final: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
They will appear as separate games in your steam library.
The save datas are connected between both the games. What I mean by this is so when you make progress in Ground Zeroes and you want that progress to transfer to The Phantom Pain-- you need to go into Ground Zeroes and click "Upload Save Data to Phantom Pain" which should appear in-game at the title screen.
Then when you play The Phantom Pain, click on "Download Save Data from Ground Zeroes" also in-game at the title screen.
That's about it, you don't have to transfer data back from TPP to GZ as it's the final part.
If you get the definitive experience I hope you enjoy the game! I sure did as I already have countless hours.
Edit: Now looking at this, I think I may have worded it just a bit confusing.
So I want to clear up that the progress between these two games do NOT interlap.
Ground Zeroes is its own game before the Phantom Pain with its own game elements and story. Same with Phantom Pain-- it's just that transferring your save data is a good idea because if you finish Ground Zeroes and want Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain to understand that, you just upload the save data and download it.
