FOB and MGO PS3 servers shutting down
One of the members of a private MGS5 group where I am shared with us notification he received on his PS3 that FOB and MGO servers are going to be shut down on 31st of May 2022. 6:00 UTC.
I seriously hope that we won't see that case on the PC servers anytime soon.

Yes I can confirm that it is getting shut down on PS3. I just logged in and that's the message that shows up before the game loads.

Here is the main article I found now, FOB and MGO servers are being shut down for PS3 and Xbox 360, while GZ servers are being shut down for all Xbox and PS versions.

We shouldn't rush with Steam version of the game. I've been thinking now and I guess that Steam servers will surely live significantly longer than PS3 servers. At least I hope that Konami won't do such a rude move towards the players on Steam servers, where most of their playerbase takes place.
But these are just my words of hope, I truly have no idea how much time will pass until we see this screen when we log in from the Steam version.
EDIT: What is also interesting is that there are no details that FOB weapons and items will be removed, I hope somebody will inform us when PS3 and Xbox 360 servers get shutdown so we know.

Konami has announced that the online servers for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will be shutting down at the end of May 2022.
-
Additionally, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be delisted from digital PS3 and Xbox 360 storefronts on March 1, 2022.
-
Fortunately, it looks like that the PS4 and Xbox One servers for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will remain functional.

Yep, as there are many players that still ay this game there, especially on PS4 over the XOne. However, MGS GZ servers will be shut down for PS4 and XOne too.
what does GZ even have servers for?

I believe it was used to share game data between GZ and PP. Completing certain tasks in GZ unlocks staff members in TPP.

I mean, PS3 is kinda dead at this point, it would only make sense to shut down the servers so you don't waste any money on them, because those aren't the same servers as those on steam. Also, how many people even play this game on PS3 compared to PS4/PS5? Exactly

Nobody cares, really. Maybe 10 people in the world do lol

Exactly. Steam servers still have many players who are actually spending money on this game, they surely cover the servers maintenance fees.
Now, if we measure activity by nuke watcher, we can see the following:
Steam: 6711 nukes (~2000 players a day, but we also have cheaters regarding the nukes)
PS3: 39 nukes (PS3 servers had legit nuke disarmament cutscene trigger on the July 2020., current amount of nukes there just represents how poor playerbase there is)
PS4: 2363 nukes (PS4 servers didn't have legit nuke disarmament cutscene trigger, yet they have so many nukes, which means there are lot of players on PS4 servers too).
In difference to Steam servers, cheating on PS3 and PS4 servers is next to impossible.
Conclusion, it's completely reasonable why Konami is shutting down PS3 servers.
What I think is that at least FOB servers for MGSV on Steam and PS4 will surely be safe from the network termination announcement for at least a year. If they are going to shut down servers after losing ~30% of FOB playerbase at the most then I don't know. But...just guessing.

This game is active on steam at any time, regardless of the sale, and it has had years to prove it. 2 years from now on, I suspect that the amount of average consecutive player count will be either the same or 10-30% less but not criminally less to void the support for the servers. I mean, look at other games that get abandoned by players all the time. Marvel's Avengers, CyberPuke 2077, and lots others lost most of its player databse. MGSV is still going rather solid (no pun intended). I mean, hell, Konami is still paying for that denuvo to be in the game, so whatever is happening, it's definitely paying off, even after such a long time after the release of the game

Agreed, and for those reasons, it would be such a rude move from Konami to shut down the Steam servers. Not to mention the long and hard grinding many players have gone through.
