METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Easy way to defeat the skulls
Hey. If anyone's struggling to defeat the skulls in any mission, like i used to, i have advice. All you need to do is to bring a good sniper rifle. Preferably Brennan-LRS level 5 or 6 (6 is best as it has a big magazine and a suppressor). This will easily kill the skulls. One exception - Code Talker on Extreme. Still doable, but they can one shot you, so you need to be very careful. In that case, i simply called sleeping gass strikes on them

Or learn how to fight them in the actual way: shoot them with rocket launcher / rifle, parry their melee, and call for resupply with running nonstop. It's more fun and rewarding that way. You can fight extreme sniper skulls with your sniper, just need to have fast reaction, also you can skip them entirely in Code Talker extreme, just walk past them sticking to the right side of the map after they show up, and climb the wall cracks to the left of the waterfall. Boom, you can now sneak past or flank them.

I know but to 100% the game you need to do the side objectives "eliminated the skulls" and "extracted the skulls. Also "extract the tank sealing off luftwa valley" - the tank doesn't appear if you don't eliminate the skulls

However, that mission previously stated (where you are in lufwa valley) it does present another farming attempt for S, S+, and S++ soldiers depending on how far along you are. my bases are almost entirely S rank soldiers but I need S+ and S++ instead. if you extract soldiers with A++ or S rank abilities, being under the control of the Skulls gives them an award and might even boost skills.
Eh... Bazooka that shoot 3 rockets oneshots them. That's how i got past first timne.
Can not be easier.

i personaly used light machinegun , it has a lot ammo , you cant kill yourself with it and with a bit practice its very relialable

rockets can be hard to hit , prone to miss and you can kill yourself with them

Stealth armor. Book it to the ladder and have Quiet Snipe them all since they don't notice you if you run fast enough.
Talking about airport, Code Talker mission is just a game of snipe or be sniped.

I'm at 100%, i don't farm parasites because grinding for limited use item is stupid. and yes, i am talking about extreme, where sniper works better than rockets

easy way to beat the skulls the first mission they appear.

When you reach the helicopter area with kaz. Before getting close enough to trigger the cutscene of the helicopter coming down which triggers the skulls appearing. Stop. Put kaz on the ground. And go to the far end of the bridge. the end the skulls dont appear at.

Walk a bit across the bridge. The road of the bridge is covered is square segments best way i can explain it. You need to place explosives at a certain point on the bridge which you can use the square segments to figure out. Ill explain why in a minutes. You want to spread out the explosives. C4. across the width of the bridge at the correct spot.

Then go trigger the cutscene. Be in sneak mode.

go back to the end of the bridge. The corner of it. You want to be just sneaking out enough to shoot one of the skulls in the head. This will cause the skulls to teleport to a point on the bridge.

the point where you spread the c4 out. Detinate the c4.

Down right. YOu automatically kill all of them. (this may require upgraded c4 but im not sure as i just do this to farm skulls. And have c4 well upgraded)

For the honey bee mission

After acquiring the honey bee and exiting triggering the cutscene. After the cutscene is over. Run back inside the cave or whatever it is. YOu want to get on a ledge.

theres a ledge in which I have yet to see a skull make it to. And with positioning you can shoot them all you like. But they cant get to you. Easiest way I have found to kill them in the honey bee mission.

I actually just thought of something. If yeah memerize where the skulls are when the cutscene ends YOu can place c4 there beforehand. (this assumes the cutscene wont get rid of them)

for the mission where you have to eliminate a truck and they jump out forgot that missions name. Its in africa.

Easiest way I have done that is at the start of the mission. I dont bother going to the airport. I just run to the end. To where I know they are going. The oil field. the road near i is kinda like a valley. Small cliffs on both sides kinda. Thats where i go.

I set emp mines on the road a little before the oil field. And alot of decoys around in the grass.

And I bring a tank and have waiting on top of the cliff and back some so cant see it. When they get there they hit the emp mines. The cutscene happens of them jumping out. and I just kill them with the tank.

cold talker mission. go on top of a building. Never experienced more then one go up there at any given time. i personally use rocket launcher for this mission.

ultimately depends on gear, they will one shot you on extreme if you wear a grade 1 camo, but not if you have grade 11 riot dress

how the hell is that an easy way when Brennan SRifles come much later on? You need to have played the game a LOT to get your power to THAT level to be able to develop one

In Code Talker, you can snipe all the Skulls before they ever get to spot you. Probably best if you have a Brennan with you, I used a suppressed Serval (can’t remember exact name) though the way I did it in theory weaker snipers both lethal and non lethal should work fine. Didn’t test this method without a suppressor.

The Skulls spawn after crossing into a specific clearing. If you hug the far left when entering into the clearing, you can see some rocks large enough to take cover behind. From behind cover you can spot the closest Skull that appears, and snipe them, head preferably for most damage. If you’re quick enough, you can get off a 2nd head shot as soon as they get up. After that, they will leap away to reposition to find you, and a 2nd Skull will have appeared on the left side to spot where you’ve been shooting from. Now you can reposition, putting a tree between you and the far left Skull, and wait on the one who you shot to reappear. While still hiding from cover of the same rock, you can spot the Skull you first shot, and if you are using the same gun I did, can likely kill them with your next shot.
The rest of the fight is mostly the same for the most part.
Hiding, spot the skulls that are around, use foliage/trees around to cover direct line of sight (not sure how necessary this is with one’s that aren’t facing in your general location, repositioning seems to take away some of their ability to detect you as easily while making small movements like spotting and aiming), try to be as much behind the cover you’re in before you take your shot, and then aim for the head. Reposition, hide behind cover, etc..

A tip to not getting spotted while behind cover is when you try to aim close to cover, but it won’t allow you to use your reticle from over the shoulder, doesn’t mean that you can’t aim down sights. I was able to kill them all fairly quickly and never got spotted, so never had to deal with them coming to melee me, which will likely happen if they spot you at some point.

It’s important to note that there’s no reward for doing this other than that it can allow you to farm for the skulls fairly safely as long as you’re patient. Likely would take practice. Happy Hunting!
