Venom only had his own damn self to thank, and those who fought on his side, and he never used them as tools.
Big Boss didnt make 'his best soldier an unwitting tool' Big Boss was in a COMA while all that was happening. That was a decision made by Ocelot (and maybe EVA), most likely, as he's a master at that sort of thing, being the spy he is.
SS always seemed kind of stupid, intelligence-wise, compared to BB who had a supossed IQ over 140 IIRC. SS never seemed like someone with an IQ that high, personally, but it may be due to his education, since he was created as a soldier, he may not have the same outside world knowledge that BB has, making SS seem a bit more infantile in comparison.
Indeed, he merely had the memories and experiences. But Big Boss himself says that Venom was his best soldier. Soldiers are supposed to have basic first aid knowledge anyways, a combat medic is simply somebody who chose to focus more on medical knowledge than combat training.
Officially. It's obvious that Venom took his combat training very seriously, and nobody says you can't get damn good in a fight just because you chose to save rather than destroy.
But I agree with you that at the end, he is what Big Boss wanted to be. He probably knew that too.
Yeah, this is probably the one part of the writing in MGS1 that doesn't stand up well. Recessive gene doesn't mean bad gene.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the OP is actually asking lol. Like, who would win or who do I prefer? If it's who would win...well, that's obvious. As for who I prefer more...eh, either. Big Boss has a bit more of a "likable" personality to him, but Solid Snake still has tons of great moments.
Also,
David Hayter>Keifer Sutherland.
Sutherland is MUCH better at being Big Boss overall than Hayter and this is coming from someone who was originally dissapointed by Hayters departure. Hayter sounds like he has throat cancer as Big Boss, whereas Sutherland sounds like a badass. Hayter sounded too cheesy for my liking as Big Boss whereas Sutherland felt grizzly and dangerous.... just like Big Boss. Hayter was fantastic as Solid however as Big Boss he felt awkward, especially in PW. Sutherland sounds more human and more torn apart which is what Big Boss is supposed to be, Hayter(as Big Boss) sounded very awkward and did a mediocre at best job.
This. So. Much.
Sutherland > Hayter.
2. He may not speak as much as David however that is besides the point, he does a far better job than Hayter did as Big Boss.
To be fair, Snake is usually the one listening, while occasionally reacting and commenting on what he hears.
He does speak a lot less in MGSV though, in the tapes, which I think are supposed to be like codec talks but they intended to make em optional, majority of the tapes have someone explaining things without the participation of Snake.
