good game/worth it?
is it good?
is it really open world? because some people say it's not really open world
And some people say the game is repetitive, like the same missions or a diffrent mission in the same place

Absolutely. The game is repetitive, but it's a lot of fun. The gameplay is amazing and the story is... okay (it's the least story-focused MGS game). Get it on sale.

It's open world. There are missions that are repeatable and happen at the same place that's where it seems repetitive.
The game is definitely worth getting. MGS 1,2,3 focused heavily on stealth. I haven't played MGS4. MGS 5 let's you take different routes (as in you can use large explosive weapons to destroy targets, snipe from far away, or capture targets) to finish the mission but stealth still is the best and most rewarding way. You're just going to have to buy, play a demo, or take advantage of Steam's return policy. You can play a certain number of hours, if you don't like the game, you can ask for a refund. No questions asked.

Best stealth game of all time, no questions asked. Story is a bit weak, but the raw gameplay value of MGS 5 is just insane. You won't find a more fluid and visceral feeling character than Venom Snake in any other stealth action game previous to this.

Also has one of the best AIs I've seen in a long time. The enemies aren't too easy, aren't too cheap - just somewhere in the middle.

Inb4 Splinter cell chaos theory.

Before someone even says that - imagine this:

Splinter cell chaos theory in fox engine.

Also about your open world question, MGS5 is not true open world. Its more like a gigantic map that you can explore, but there is very little to see. It feels more like an open world for the sake of being open world, than a place you'd actually be interested in exploring.

There are outposts to defeat and capture, but they offer little challenge and will probably bore you quickly. You can also visit the areas where your main missions take place in the open world, but there is little point to doing so as you may as well just play the actual mission at that point.

This game imo is best played mission by mission, never leaving the "ACC" (Which is your helicopter that Snake stays in when you're afk.)

It's a pretty good game. 9.3/10 for me. the game features a deep story, a portion of the story are in the form of cassette tapes. more than an hour's worth i think. IF YOU SKIP THE CASSETES YOU WILL BE LEFT IN THE DARK MUCH ABOUT THE STORY.

the reason why this was done was to not "force" gamers to watch hrs of people talking in cut-scenes. MGS4 was criticised for having gamers spend their time watching people talk excessively. MGS4 has a about 8 hrs worth of dialogue. MGSV on the other hand allows you to game while you listen to portions of the story.

- Absolutely. It is a great game.

is it really open world?
- Pretty much.

is it repetitive?
- The grind is real. But if you like the game, it's not too bad.

yes and no. only if you play it the same way and skip listening to the tapes. then it's just runing around a map. you can play using only a tranquilizer gun, semi-automatic, rocket launcher, hand to hand, or just explosives, so that's 5 ways to play it.

beyond that, i think you mean more "depth" and "purpose" to the maps you play in. other than just doing the objectives. and yeah it sucks you don't have much depth in the maps.

Yes, this game is good. Look at all the reviews and you will get the general consensus that MGSV is worth it and a great game. :VSnake:

I enjoy it, but it is a deeply flawed game. It can be a bit repetitive, it definitely feels a bit like it’s unfinished (which it is), and the level of grind and idle time required to develop high-end items is absurd. I’ve played 300 hours and will likely never use some of the endgame items because of the grind required to get them. Overall though I’ve enjoyed it and I still fire it up for a few hours at a time every now and then.

The game is only repetitive if you're going for 100% compltetion. You can complete the storyline without doing the same mission twice. I've personally done it on my 2nd acct.

I never played any of the earlier MGS titles so my take on the game will be different to those who are familiar with the franchise. I like MGS V a lot as a stealth playground, though there are things I don't like about the game too. This is what I've found...

The good:

  1. The stealth play is absolutely stellar. This is as good as stealth gets.
  2. The weaponry and tool upgrades are varied and interesting. There are plenty of weapons that will aid you in choosing stealth (unlike many stealth games that offer you a lot of noisy weapons you can't use).
  3. Amazing oil-rig base - phenomenal
  4. To research and upgrade, you 'collect people' (soldiers you've shot), extracting their unconscious bodies to your base where they form part of your ever-growing faction.
  5. You can replay any mission at any time to better your score and unlock challenge points for extra in-game rewards.
  6. Missions have optional goals as well as the main goal, making them all the more interesting.
  7. You have absolute full freedom to approach the vast majority of missions how YOU want. The game forces nothing upon you. Fulton-extract your primary target to use him at your base, or run him over in a tank - you choose.
  8. Silly 'collection' idea of capturing animals for your very own zoo! I don't know why this is even fun, but it is.

The bad:

  1. Although the two game areas are fully open, Afghanistan is like a rocky maze and you can't go easily from one point to another because long, winding tall cliffs bar your way for miles. It becomes frustrating. Africa, on the other hand, is much less limited with vast, open plains - and much better for it.
  2. For a newcomer, the story seems to be hot garbage, making no sense and being utterly bizarre. MGS fans appear to enjoy the story, however, so I only find this bad as a newcomer to the franchise.
  3. Some bosses are frustrating beyond belief, and difficult to tackle.
  4. You are given THE most amazing home base (oil rig) to develop and expand, but when there you can't do a thing with it (it would have been nice to integrate upgrades and research into the buildings). You can't even explore inside the structures. Amazing wasted opportunity. Perhaps THE best base in all gaming history, and it is unusable, pretty much.
  5. Yep, repetitive. The side missions in particular will return you to identical locations you've already cleaned out. The story starts to repeat earlier missions with harder parameters - very lazy, and makes the game feel unfinished.
  6. Micro-transaction monetised. You have to wait hours and hours for a base upgrade, or pay real money to fast-forward the build. Unacceptable in a full-price game.

Despite all of the bad, MGS V is a superb experience when it works (ie not when facing down a bat-crazy boss) and yes, I think it's definitely worth getting. The Ground Zero prequel is fabulous too (almost better then the main game, in fact).
