Oh no, it's missing one option in one of the best optimized engines the gaming market has seen in years. It's totally not scalable over a massive range of hardware well beyond what's listed on the store page for minimum requirements.

How horrid of a port.

To be fair, there really aren't many games that lack volume options entirely nowdays. It's standard to at least have a master, sounds and music volume slider.

It's more common than you might think. While I would like MGS5 to have them, I can understand why it doesn't from a design standpoint.

Mind explaining that design standpoint to me? I don't see how the lack of any volume option whatsoever is justifiable.

Because audio cues are helpful in this kind of game? Guards make noise when they move or something catchs their suspision. Vehicles make noise when they move. Prisoners make noise as you approach them. Cameras make noise. Do I need to go on any further? Seeing as the player's main goal should be to avoid enemy confrontation as much as possible, taking advantage of such audio cues makes this goal much easier to achieve.

Why anyone would want to mess around with the audio settings in a game like this is beyond me.

Kojima wanted V to be more like tv/film, where volumes are balanced a specific way in advance for the vision of the end product.

This is one of the best ports around, and gratned the lack of audio options is abit odd but i can't really see them needed unless its too loud then just use a volume slider lol or get some better headphones maybe.

have to say you 'multiple VAC bans' is pretty impressive, how did you manage that lol?
Seamus Jun 27, 2017 @ 3:18pm
Oh wow. And less than a month since his last VAC. Bravo, man. We'll have fun reporting you when you inevitably start cheating in FOBs.

No, it's not the only way. I just reach up to my volume control knob and turn it down by hand.

While prefer to just turn down the volume via my headphone control

Maybe I want to increase the volume of those sound clues, or change volume of voices, or change the music volume, or ambient sounds? They could have implemented a "reset to recommended settings" option and there wouldn't be any problem. After all, we are talking about an option. No one would need to change anything, if they didn't want to risk to mess things up.
Also the game encourages to approach certain missions differently, considering the vast amount of weapons. I don't need to stealth everything. In "Back Up, Back Down" there's no reason for
avoiding confrontation and listening carefully to soldier footsteps or cameras. You can do it, but the game even recommends to use missile weapons for the mission in the mission list menu, which isn't really effective if you want to avoid to get spotted.

But in a movie you can adjust the volume of any sound throughout the whole film, knowing the viewer will hear everything this way exactly. Games are interactive, the only things that are consistently the same for every player, are scripted events and cutscenes. It would be nice to have the option to enjoy the music better or to have the helicopter be more quiet, especially when you're in the ACC.
And nonetheless, wanting the game to have a "movie vibe" is no excuse for not at least having a master volume option included.

If I had headphones, that would probably be my preferred method too. I only have speakers, but it's really the same thing either way. The only problem is that cheap headphones don't have their own volume control and then you have to do the Windows method which doesn't always lower it enough to not break your ear drums.
