METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Camos for different (specific) locations *NO SNEAKING NONSENSE*
I like to play an immersive game, turn off all HUD except subtitles, and only use basic camos that help you blend in.

DO NOT TALK ABOUT SNEAKING SUIT (or battle dress). I have no interest in cheat items that make the game easy, I love the risk & set myself self imposed challenges. I wish you could start missions with no guns so you had to rely on picking them up only.

As for Camos, I cannot find a use for most of them.

For Afghanistan I keep seeing threads saying use Woodland or Desert Fox - I do not understand this line of thinking. I only use ANIMALS in Afghanistan - its description states its for greenery or soil, which covers the other 2 completely. When you look around in Afghanistan, its all soil and greenery, and that includes their Central Base, I tried using SQUARES over there, it did not go down well.

So all in all, it makes WOODLAND/DESERT FOX worthless for me, why use either if ANIMALS has both.

In Africa, no matter where you go, its just red soil, so GOLDEN TIGER is the only appropriate camo. Even in Kiziba Camp, or Bwala Ya Masa, which try to trick you into thinking they're swamps, if you take a careful look around, there is more red soil there than anything else, so GOLDEN TIGER triumphs above all.

So these 2 cover most the areas, its the remaining camo I have trouble figuring out a use for.... for instance WETWORK, says its for rivers or swamps, costs 1700, sounds like the ANIMALS of Africa.... but where do you use it? The only place I can legitimately think of is Lufwa Valley (maybe sorta) or on the way to Ngumba Industrial zone, where you only go once in mission 20. It sounds so cool, but has so little uses.

Squares - Works in Nova Braga Airport or Mfinda Oilplant... that's virtually it. As I said earlier, Animals worked better in Afghan Central Base.

Striped Tiger - where would you even use that? Maybe bits of Afghanistan that are more rocky than sandy, but where specifically? I cannot see the point of it existing as ANIMALS covers Afghanistan virtually everywhere.

Splitter - why did they even put this in the game?

I tried WOODLAND in Africa but again, its all red soil there, the amount of greenery seems negligent vs the red soil, and GOLDEN TIGER blends in so damn well.

So just curious if any other camo junkies found an interesting use for the non animals/golden tiger camos.

I use Olive Drab(scarf) or Tiger Stripe(scarf) for the first 700 hours of my playtime so...

there are some situational suits there but there is use for them in some missions and for some objectives you need to do.

Squares camo is good for FOB's.

If you're not using Raiden 24/7 you might as well stop playing.

I just tried Tiger Stripe in Afghan as some of the surface is rather rocky, but got spotted by Jeepc#nt almost immediately so ordered Animals back off Amazon Prime

Lol, haven't unlocked it yet on this playthrough though I'm close. Its cool and all, but like the stealth item and bandana novelty wears off quickly. I want to be surviving rat to rat

You can go in with no weapons if you use Infinite Heaven. It will create a non-weapon weapon rather than a true no weapons, which is basically a selecting a weapon in the sortie prep that is no weapon at all.

Other camo's that I find useful that are not Golden Tiger or Desert Fox......

APD - It's a pixelated Desert camo great for most of Afgahnistan (non-Urban environments)

Gray Urban or Square - Good for Urban Environments, Afghanistan Central Base or Africa Mfinda Oilfield or Nova Braga Airport, these are also good for FOB

Wetwork or Solum - I like to use for CodeTalker, especially EXTREME CodeTalker to sneak past all the Sniper skulls straight up the river.

Night Bush - I like to use in Africa (non urban environments)

Don't really feel like modding this game, will just take a 2 L1 weapons instead and impose that I can't use them till I get one of an enemy. I don't have most of those camos, are they DLC or special edition ones?

I still need to S rank Code Talker Extreme, just did all 6 objectives on 1st run and the game threw an A at me. Not fighting the skulls again, just gonna do what you suggested instead with a Climber soldier.

A good majority of Camos are gotten through playing FOB Event Missions and you buy them with Event Points. More likely than not, that's where they all came from. There are some that came with the Definitive Edition that was originally part of preorder items, but you would already have those if you bought the Definitive Edition.

Once you get past mission 22 you can start doing FOB Event missions and buy them with Event Points. Not all are on every event mission and the event switches every 2 weeks with a new set of items to buy.

I've always felt like "no sound footsteps" was kind of cheating. Not cheating in the traditional sense of cheating, but does make it too easy to just sneak up on someone. At least for "in field" type stuff I don't like using them. FOB is a different story since you need all the protection you can get in many cases. I really don't feel like the camo system is as developed as it was in MGS3. In reality, I can wear anything in field and it's just as easy, why make it any easier?

Why do people like you come to these threads? Do you feel clever now? You're not, you're nothing more than a parasite with his head up his own donkey.

The stealth camo makes it too easy to sneak up on people and aids your health recovery drastically. I like to just blend in. The purpose of this discussion was to discuss CAMOUFLAGE ONLY. I tried to google this but all I get is people like you blabbering on about "just use the sneaking armour". No, I used it the 1st time round and didn't like the challenge it took away.

I bought this when it came out so no special editions. I have only done my first ever FOB missions a few days ago when I started playing again. Never tried an event, guess I'll take a look

Who's talking about stealth camo? I'm talking about sneaking suits. They've got ZERO camo. All they do is give you the reduced footstep radius.

Current FOB Event Uniforms. They change every 2 weeks.

The Fatigues/Camouflages are separated into different categories like:

Greenery - for grassy areas, forests, tall weeds
Rocky - Mountainsides, rocky areas
Rivers & Swamps - Muddy, or where rivers are present

-- a camo like Wetwork is for the Pitch Dark areas, Kibiza Camp, the Voices area right before the tunnel, and certain muddy parts of Africa --

Metal & Concrete - Concrete or metal surface areas like FOBs or bases
Red Soil - Africa areas where red soil is present (Golden Tiger fatigue)
Sand & Soil - Desert and arid areas
Equipment or when driving vehicles - While riding D-Walker or driving a truck or using an AA gun (Splitter fatigue)

and finally the mixture camouflages like Animals (which is for sandy surfaces and greenery)

The description of the camouflage is important so a fatigue like Green Tiger (made for rocky areas) is really good for Afghanistan....

Check my guide for details -

Night Bush is for rocky areas so it is best used in Afghanistan.
