Are FOBs still worth it?

Hey, I'm a new player to MGSV, and I've read a lot that FOBs are a major online element, to the point that stuff like the mortars and stationary guns are pretty much elements for that exclusively. Now, with the game out for so long, would doing stuff related to FOBs still be worth it? I can only imagine the FOBs around now are mostly higher level players with bases that are death traps to me.

This is coming from someone that hasn't been able to develop an FOB yet, just for reference, but I am asking since I've been fultoning a lot of mortars recently and I wondered what they were used for.

Well, if I understand them correctly, FOBs add additional GMP and resource growth, but those resources could also be stolen as well. Considering how new I'd be in comparison to the probably thousands of MGSV veterans, I'd think that creating a FOB would be pretty much giving a handout to said veterans, especially since I lack the experience to properly retaliate and steal stuff back from their bases

Am I overestimating the competitiveness of the FOBs, however?

i think you are overthinking it.
maybe you will encounter players on FOBs, maybe you won't.
FOBs are worth it, they are fun.

FOBs are fun. I generally dislike direct competition in games cuz I suck at aiming, but sneaking around another players fob and stealing ♥♥♥♥ is fun. You can generally find one low enough level to succeed at.

Or you can just Grand Theft Auto your way through honestly with some of them, wait until CP enters a lower status, and go through the capture door.

I use quiet a lot because she can zip around real quick and of course because boobs

Like Holo said. You're over-thinking it. FOB is the fastest way to earn GMP and resources, so yes, they're worth it. Don't worry about being attacked. It doesn't happen without reason. By time you give someone a reason, you'll be higher grade as well. Unless you go around attacking every high level player in the game. Don't do that and you'll be okay. Just look at their ESPG rank. If it's in the thousands, then you're clear to attack. There are rare exceptions like people who intentionally tank their score, but that's rare.

So I can get on with the SP game without much worry? The reason I ask is that outside the weekend I have very little playtime

Just stick to the random tab or events and you'll be okay. It's the fastest way to upgrade your weapons, so just do them when you have time.

And i you just want to steal stuf and speed up your solo development - most of middle tier FOBs are dead now, so it's easy to raid one or two in between the missions.
