Question about motherbase building

Does it matter in what order to build each platform and does every platform have a set place they are built or does it build them in the order you choose?

Base building is limited(Only 1 way to build the base and from what I remember each section coud have 4 parts)

The only thing that matters when choosing which one to build is to find the section that you need the most.(If you want better development build development expansions first(

Afaik, mother base is always the same, but different waters have different preset layouts. So an FOB built in the Indian Ocean will be slightly different to one built in the north Atlantic, but all fobs built in the Indian Ocean will have the same layout as one another and all fobs built in the north Atlantic will also be identical (at least in terms of platform layout).

Platforms are unlocked at mother base through story missions, and Miller wears the cost of the main platform as each function is introduced. For FOBs the command platform must be built before anything else, but after that it's free choice.

You can choose to upgrade one platform all the way to level 4 before upgrading anything else, or spread upgrades across platforms.

Its usually a good idea to invest in upgrading mother base platforms equally for a few reasons:
1 - the time to construct only counts in-game time, so parallel construction is faster.
2 - mother base is relatively cheap to upgrade
3 - mother base doesn't get invaded through online play.

For FOB bases, best practice is to upgrade the command platform to Max and try to minimise the time you have platforms at level 1 or 2. This is because an invader can choose whichever platform they like across all your FOBs, so a level 1 platform with minimal staff is an easy target, even if you have high defences elsewhere.

Adding to Fugue's comments: Besides the actual layouts, FOBs in certain waters have different resource mining returns, as well as different costs in MB coins. One of the waters you can choose is particularly good for security layout, but I can't remember which one.
