How is the project over by MGSV? I know chronologically 3 is the first, then it should be 5, yes? Because Big Boss is still alive and kicking, it is obviously before Solid Snake beats his ass in Outer Haven (mentioned in MGS2: Solid Snake). So the project can't be over, since it hasn't even started if Big Boss is alive and well.
Ah, I missed Peace Walker because I never did get very into handheld games. I owned a GBA and that is it. I also missed Crisis Core, but played that via emulator.
But I always thought that the project didn't happen until AFTER Snake defeated Big Boss. Guess that is an oof on my part. But it still doesn't answer the question what happened to Venom Snake? Was he eventually betrayed and killed by Big Boss?
Anyway, as was said in the first reply, Venom got killed in Metal Gear 1 or 2, one of those where Solid "killed" Big Boss.
Does this actually happen in the game, or is it one of those mentioned later type things? I never played the original NES Metal Gear games, only from the PS1 era onward. I wasn't aware there was even any real story elements in the original NES games, that would be kind of a rarity for games of that time!
Didn't know PW came out for PS3. I had heard it was a handheld, so never really kept up with it. It's the only one in the main series, excluding the NES games, that I haven't played.
On Metal Gear, Solid almost kills Venom, and on Metal Gear 2 Solid kills Snake.
There's more things, but I don't remember them.
Yeah.. you don't want to play the NES games. They are not the originals.
And Venom dies in the first MG. MG2's final boss is BB.
LMAO, I had to look up what an MSX was, I had never heard of it before. Now I know why, apparently they weren't very common here in the United States, and it came out 2 years before I was born. Legit thought the games on NES were the originals. Well, I thank you for educating me there!
Then you know what happens in MGSV.
During the 'mirror scene' in Mission 46, Venom flips over the tape titled "From the Man Who Sold the World" and on the flipside is a side entitled "Operation Intrude N313." This is the mission in Metal Gear MSX (1987) that Solid Snake undertakes.
If you look closely at the cutscene, the Diamond Dogs logo on the door behind Venom changes into the Outer Heaven logo from Metal Gear MSX (1987).
So, from putting 2 and 2 together (to make 5) we can figure out that the Big Boss that Solid Snake defeats in Outer Heaven during Operation Intrude N313 in Metal Gear MSX (1987) is none other than Punished 'Venom' Snake.
It's a massive and brilliant retcon that brings the Metal Gear Solid saga full circle.
*Solid Snake defeats the phantom Big Boss (Venom Snake) in Metal Gear MSX (1987)
*Solid Snake defeats the actual Big Boss (Naked Snake) in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake MSX
*The Les Enfants Terrible project, where Zero creates the clones Solid and Liquid from Naked Snake, occurs between the Snake Eater and Peacewalker games.
MGS4 is my second favorite game in the series. It got knocked for it's long ass cutscenes, but my god was it cinematic and masterfully told. 2nd only to Snake Eater for me
