How do I snipe?

Hi I only have the starting rifle on m6 and can't hit anything while trying to save prisoner. Any tips or am I missing something obvious in the gud.

make sure you are taking into account drop otherwise its just aim and shoot. or take the stealthy route

You can rescue Miller without firing a single shot. Although, that took me many months of playing the game before I was that well versed in the area to just sneak in and do it.

If you can't hit anything, then you're not aiming center mass. Have you forgotten your military training? Aim center mass soldier. If you really must go for head shots, don't forget to press F when you're aiming.

Try lying down.
I don't know if this only counts for specific snipers like the Brennan or for all snipers, but mostly you won't move an inch while lying on the ground, so you can perfectly aim

In early game you really don't have good enough guns to snipe well with over 25 meters. As long as you have first tier weapons, stick to sneaking up close and plink from under 25 meters or so. Tier two weapons give you OK sniper rifles, but they are still not that great.

Your starting rifle is a carbine with a short barrel. Forget about sniping and sneak closer.

By mission 6 you should access to smoke grenades. They're extremely useful, even in the late game. They block vision of anyone not using thermal goggles and enemies that are caught in the smoke without a gas mask will be helpless while you run up and CQC them. They can't wear both at the same time.

You can sneak your way pretty much all the way to Sahelanthropus without upgrading any weapons whatsoever. That was fun. I did that on my smurf acct just to do something harder. Can't get past Sahelanthropus without any weapons though, so the smurf has been stuck there for about a year.
