Skipping MSX Metal Gear ?
Hi, just for know, does the MSX Metal Gear still worth playing only for their stories, or can I skip them to directly playing Metal Gear Solid, just by reading their stories in the bonus ? Thanks by advance :)

Kojima didn't have neither the big picture nor the ability to tell story like today. And you won't feel the same as MGSV. The first two are focusing more on the stealth mechanism rather than story. (In you words, still playable). Like mario games, you will never care about the story, but still fun to jump around. One of the charm of MGSV is that he actually connect the story back to the beginning, and solve the greatest BUG in his early year storytelling: Why you can kill Big Boss Twice. In my perspective, MGSV is proof of MSX MGs' lame storytelling.

Well, if you are there for the story, it's totally not worthy. You can still catch up MGS easily.

But to feel the perfection of those Kojima games and those good old days of gaming.
Play it.

VR missions is not worth it. I got it on the Legacy Collection, and it can be very repetitive.

I have a question for you : I have buy a Playstation 1 Controller without stick, can I play the 2 games from the second CD of Subsistence with it ? I am able to play Crash the Wrath of Cortex with it, but not Twinsanity for exemple.

I finished Metal Gear and I started Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake.

The first was really fun I think, the second is boring at the moment (I have to defeat the Hind D actually).

The story is good, but I hate the control of it.

In what world is this even REMOTELY true?

Metal Gear Solid: Solid Snake was VERY story focused, and you learn a lot about Solid Snake, his mission prior, his background. You learn about FOXHOUND. I mean, there is a HUGE story, and it is a very big part of the game.

MGS 2: Sons of Liberty was the same, though I personally didn't care for the plot of that one as much. Metal Gear Solid 3 was even more story focused than 1, with a lot of cutscenes and a very complex narrative. MGS 4 was even moreso!

So to even insinuate in the slightest that prior MGS games were not story driven is asinine, and it shows a woeful ignorance of the previous games.

You misunderstood. He was talking about the first 2 games. Not Solid, and Solid 2

Exactly, the two game from the MSX2, not the PS1/2 game

,ohh okay. never did play those. to be fair, most games in that era didn't focus on story

Sincerely, the story of MG2 impresses me.

By the way, now that I play MSX2 games, I find MGS less innovative for the gameplay to be honest O_o

Really?
The moment I first started this game (which was a week ago), I was so impressed with the improved mechanics, the brilliant soundtrack, codecs being more useful, graphics looking more colourful and appealing, and the story being more emphasised than the first game.
The fact that this game came out in 1990 is really impressive for what it is and it got me hooked.
The controls is something you can get used to (for the MSX version anyway, I don't know what it's like on the Subsistence version), it's pretty much the same but Snake turns for a bit which isn't really that bad.

Which is exactly why I'm impressed. I don't think there's many games that are like that back then.

I completed that game too just recently.
It's definitely amazing and the later games are gonna be even better.
