And if you can't figure out the keyboard controls, I feel bad for you. The keyboard and mouse controls work great.
You don't have to hold shift to run. Just tap it once and you run. Tap it again and you'll stop running or just let go of the keys and you'll stop running or press the space bar to dive and you'll stop running, many different ways to stop running.
On horseback, Tap the shift for a "giddy up" kind of command to make the horse run, but after a few seconds he will slow back down, so you do have to tap it again every few seconds or so to keep him running. There are many ways to stop the horse. Pressing E mid gallop will cause you dismount. Pressing S or (down) will cause the horse to stop too. Pretty basic horse controls with most any game that has a horse. You can press left or right (A or D) to lean to one side of the horse or the other, handy if there is an enemy on the left and you're leaning to the right, they see the horse but not you on the horse. That's pretty handy.
Mouse is for Aiming and looking around, as it is in many KB&M games. Keyboard is for control, mouse is for camera angle and shooting.
The KB&M controls really are great for this game. You're just not used to them so your expectations don't meet the reality, but that does not mean they aren't good. That's just you needing to get used to the controls and don't know what they are.
Again, If you need any additional control help for how to do something, just ask. Just remember, the problem isn't with the controls, it's with the operator of the controls.
I gave you the exact information you asked about. If you don't want the answer, don't ask the question. Or is it that you yourself don't know the question? I'm not sure, but there is nothing wrong with the controls in this game. Are they different from other games. A little, but not so much. Nothing you can't get used to. If you have a specific question, ask and I'll answer, but throwing a tantrum won't get you the answers you're seeking.
To stop walking or running while on foot release W. While mounted on D-horse to sprint/gallop tap shift. To stop D-horse from walking release W. To stop D-horse from galloping hit S. While galloping on D-horse you dont need to hold down W to keep going forward. You can tap sprint and then tap you A and D keys to steer. Once he stops galloping he reverts to walking mode and to walk with D-horse you do need to hold down W.
I'm not sure that rebounding is actually what this guy is looking for. I'm thinking that only he knows what he actually means and rather than ask the population for help, he'd just rather complain that the controls don't meet his expectations while not being able to fully articulate what the issues actually are. Possibly even his own mis-perception about what is actually going on. Mostly because I have yet to hear of an issue the way he is describing it.
At one point I was thinking he may have the conflicting controller driver bug, but he's lacking in the details that would point to that, so didn't bother mentioning it.
He's just not capable of asking for help in fashion that produce the results to have him fully functional and enjoying the game.
