USING TANKS IN MISSIONS
I've just tried using a Mag-Tank in Extreme Get-up Get-down and it didn't work very well. I got knocked out by assault rifle fire and a single handgrenade while engaging a Russian armoured car. This doesn't seem much like how a tank's armour should work. The Russuan armoured cars took 2 - 4 rounds to knock out from main armament, again not like the effect a 105mm should have on them.
Has anybody else tried using tanks and can they give me some tips on how to make them work.

Yeah, vehicles are as stong as wet cardboard just use a gun

The mission was actually called Back-up Back-down; its the one where you have to destroy a bunch of Rusian tanks during a guerrilla offensive. I thought the tank would be good for this "guns blazing" type mission, especially as you have to do a bit of travelling. Turns out the tank was not much use except as a form of (expensive) transport. As stated above, its armour was as strong as wet cardboard and its gun hit like a small grenade. I was getting destroyed by HMG fire from BTR-60 and needed 2 - 4 hits of 105mm to knockout a BTR 60 - this is silly. Anyway, ended up completing the mission using mines and RL. THe tank was just an APC for covering ground in a hurry.
Lol. dude just fulton em.
More cash money that way.

I used a tank on that mission where you have to destroy enemy armored vehicles under a time limit.

Was pretty good as long as you don't trust in it's armor. Yeah... The Tank will blow up if it keeps getting hit so you gotta keep moving or clear the way.

You don't make the rules of this game. In a different mission, I had the opportunity to drive a tank and when I did that I soon realized when there was smoke coming out of it that the tanks in the game aren't like tanks in real life.

You're right, OP. The durability of tanks in this game leaves something to be desired. Strangely, I find them quite useless against infantry; only useful against other tanks and against weapon emplacements. You mentioned that the mission you're doing is a "guns blazing" type of mission--I'd argue that stealth actually works very well. There's one tank I usually attack with an anti-tank weapon from afar, then I covertly obstruct and fulton all the others. It works well.

That isn't to say there's no use for tanks in the main missions though. I found tanks to be extremely useful in Mission 28 Code Talker.

Don't get hit.

Seriously. Wait at a distance, take over behind a hill or large rock, and snipe the enemy vehicles with your main cannon as they drive up the road. Tanks are very good at killing vehicles at long range, but if you get close, one tank isn't going to last against a half-dozen vehicles.

If you plan on completing that mission, the best way is to simply wait past the Supply Outpost and use C4, Claymores, EM mines, D-horse or another vehicle to stop the tanks from advancing while you sneak behind them and extract them out. Using another tank to blow them up will end up badly.

Indeed, he was more durable than a tank, well even now with a grade 11 sneaking suit we are more durable than a tank I bet, if we exclude headshots that is, zam.

Cheers all, thanks for the comments. Finally managed to complete with an A rank. Would have got an S rank except I called in an airstrike on the supply base (just for fun).

Well you need an S rank on all mission for something special, if you want an S rank here's how you can have one: Use D walker and devellop his Fulton launcher, when he is equiped with it charge it by holding the fire button wich will increase the range of the shot, one hit will fulton the target and you can do the mission without being seing for an even easier S rank, note that if you hold the run button he will speed up and no matter from how high you fall with him you will never die unlike when you use D-Horse, keep this advice in mind, zam.

Or just block the road using d-horse and a big truck. Use the poop command to make d-horse not run away when the vehicles use their horns, then fulton the vehicles. Easy S.
