METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

How is this game GAMEPLAY wise?
I have not played any of the Metal Gear Solid games.

I'm here to ask: Is the gameplay of Phantom Pain fun? Because, I'm here for fun. I like Stealth, and I think this game might be a fun addition to my Library.

The series looks interesting, and I've heard it's got one of the best stories in the world (if only anyone could understand it). Maybe I can get into it, but so far, I'll probably have to watch a video explaining the story. Sure, it's not as good as traveling back in time, owning every console and system it ever came out on, playing each game extensively, then replaying each game in order of time to properly understand the story, lore and extended universe, but hey, it'll do.

I've seen a thread made by DxSpark earlier, and as far as I can tell:

Story: 2/10
Gameplay, 9.87/10

So, what's the verdict here? Should I buy METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, and watch a video on the story of MGS, or just look to another Stealth game?

Ta!

EDIT: MGSV was on PS PLUS last month... I... I can't...

I would say this is a solid title (see what I did there?), it's a nice addition to the saga, not the best one in story telling and length, but gameplay wise? excellent game. There are MANY ways to approach a situation, plus a huge amount of items that can be used differently for each purpose, lots of guns, plus the FOB game which will expand your whole experience, although it is not needed to play it, it's good that it is there anyway.

And Metal Gear Online which is kinda fun, I rarely play it, but it's an ok multiplayer game if you are a MGS fan.

I would say go for it.

Gameplaywise this is the best it gets in the genre currently. The game has its issues, but that core gameplay is incredible.

Great gameplay in an empty sandbox level design really cut its potential short

MGS5 is the best of the entire series. I played all of the Metal Gear Solid games, but they were always something I could do without. Peace Walker was the first one I started to really dig. Something about the base system and overall meta-game mixed with more open-styled missions and gameplay (compared to the other games linear nature) made it great. MGS5 took Peace Walker to a whole 'nother level. Very good game, even if you didn't like the originals you need to play this.

There is tons of different kit and you can do missions so many ways. You can even find a recording of a guy having the runs (out his rear) and play it on your Walkman speaker out loud while hiding in a bathroom so no one will walk in there to investigate you. That little specific thing, yeah there are tons of them. You can take a drug that makes time pass fast and observe patrol movements over a day within a few seconds, then sneak up to a truck toss in explosives and detonate it as it drives around in the base. You can use smoke or explosives for distractions. Decoys. You can grab a standard rifle, heavy body armor, and go in shooting everyone. You can knock everyone out with tranq/stun rounds. You could Rambo the whole thing and choke out an entire base of soldiers one by one if you got the skill. You can even deck out your helicopter and have it shoot up an entire base for you then just waltz in for your objective.

Everyone loves this game if you put in at least a dozen hours to get through the initial missions and learn the controls. Stop asking. Buy it. Smack anyone who tells you otherwise and tell them to wise up. If you have to wait on a sale no problem, we are coming up to Black Friday and Christmas sales so I guarantee this game will be on sale sometime in the next 6 weeks.

Good gameplay, environments are a little repetitive for an open-world game. That's where most people take off the 0.13 points in the gameplay category. Otherwise, very very solid core gameplay.

The best.
I was in the same boat as you. No experience with the series, and bought it just for gameplay. It's still an amazing game. Just be ready for the longest and slowest intro in your life before you start the actual game. As well as many other very lengthy cutscenes. But from what I understand, it's not nearly as bad as MGS4 was.

If you're in for the gameplay then absolutely get it.

But should I buy Ground Zeroes as well? And play that before I play Phantom Pain?
Misa Nov 13, 2017 @ 10:10pm
buy it and weep

I never played Ground Zeroes, there is an option to download data from Ground Zeroes when you are in the main menu for The Phantom Pain. Think it nets you extra volunteers and a few suits/skins, nothing really needed.
