METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

About optional objectives and replaying missions
1. For the main missions, I tend to restart missions if I'm spotted and cause enemies to be in combat status. Before being spotted though, I may have completed one or more optional objectives. After restarting the mission, I noticed that these optional objectives have been ticked off in my iDroid. However, if i want to achieve the best score at the end of the mission, do I still need to complete these optional objectives again, or will it be unnecessary as they will be factored in the final score?

2. Similarly, for replaying missions to get a S rank/completing the other optional objectives, do i still need to re-achieve any objectives, or is it unnecessary?

3. Are there any additional bonuses that you can receive if you replay a mission and achieve a better score (e.g. extra GMP, higher heroism score)?

4. For replaying missions, say if one of the objectives involves killing/destroying something - I'll take Mission 3 as an example, the sole objective being assasinating a Russian soldier. If in my original playthrough I didn't do so (e.g. I fultoned the soldier instead, sending him to mother base), would I be able to do so when replaying, and would it have any affect on my existing save - i.e. if I kill the soldier this time, will this soldier then no longer exist in mother base? How about the reverse - e.g. i killed him in the original playthrough, in my second playthrough I decide to fulton him, will he then be added to mother base?

1. If you restart a mission, to get credit for the objective during that mission you need to do the objective again. Restarting a mission is as if it didn't happen. If it is already checked off, it is already counting towards the overall completion of the game. Just not for the mission that you're on.

2. You never have to reacheive, once it's ticked off, it counts towards the overall game completion. There are some missions where it is not possible to achieve all objectives in the same run and must be done multiple times to achieve all of the objectives.

3. Yes and no. You can get more by fultoning animals, but once you achieve S-Rank, objectives are purely an if you want to do them thing, then do them. Otherwise, it doesn't matter much. There is a hidden bonus called No Traces. This can be accomplished by doing a mission total stealth without firing a shot or using any weapons of any kind. Not causing an alert. Not even soft alert if I remember correctly. No Traces is exactly that, absolutely no trace you were even there. Some missions are easy to do, some are harder, but if you can do it, it offers a huge bonus to the overall score for the mission that it far outweighs 1000 times over what you may get from any one objective. If you go for no traces, ignore the objectives and focus on no traces, unless, of course, it's an objective that can still be done while meeting the No Traces requirements.

4. Yes you can fulton the commander on subsequent play throughs. It will only affect your save in that this time around you will have the commander in your brig. Think of replaying it more as going back in time and doing it a different way. You get to keep what you did the 2nd time around. Or like me the 45th time around.

Only 45? ♥♥♥♥, I think I've done that one over 100 times just because of how fast it is.

LOL, I quit counting many times ago. I have no idea how many times I've been through them. Some more than others. I know I've only done A Quiet Exit 3 times. I avoid it like the plague.
