Why is this game considered great?
Not criticising, but I think it's pretty average. The story is pretty bland for an MGS game and the gameplay is just repetitive.

I've given it another shot as it got rated on PCGamer's top 100 list as #5 or so, but I'm struggling to see the appeal?

It's repetitive? How's it repetitive? The way YOU play it is repetitive? Well, not mine.

Hahahaha, "It's not even reptetitive. I don't know what you're talking about." - hahahaha! What drugs are you on? Let's take OKB Zero as an example: First you do a main mission there, and after that you do AT LEAST three side missions there as well, so that's four times cleaning out that place, but no no, "that's not repetitive", right?

Best thing to do is to never go beyond your own experience to determine whether a game is great or not. If you are wondering how or why other people find mgsV a great game, the reason is because everyone has a different experience while playing the game.

Reviews are attempts at creating a generalized view of a game for marketing purposes. It is very hard to quantify how much fun a game is or how much you will enjoy a game from reading a review. If you didn't find mgsV stellar, then that's it. That is your experience.

Wondering about how a reviewer or player came to a different opinion about a game than you is pretty much pointless since you have to ask yourself, "am i going to be persuaded by someone who had entitely different experience of the game?" Probably not.

The game is repetitive, though. That's an objective fact. You have to be on drugs to think that it's not repetitive in at least SOME aspects. The only thing that you can defend with post modernism like that, is if you ENJOY a repetitive game.

You can run around and do whatever you want. That's not new but it's still one of the best things about this game.

I just spent an hour or more, running around on a total of 28 platforms, grabbing around 112 guards by the neck, in order to hopefully shake them for diamonds. It sure as hell wasn't new and exciting, troll.

I know you mean 'grindy' when you type the word 'repetitive.' Since all video games are repetitive using that word to describe something particular about a certain video game is pointless.

I do not understand what you mean by 'objective fact' but I do agree that mgsV is grindy. Grinding is a real part of Metal Gear Solid The Phantom Pain.

I do not understand what you mean by 'post modernism' but I do like the grind in mgsV and I like playing FOBs. I think it is really really fun.

I do know you are a troll and I know that you enjoy being one, but it's ok. Different joys for different people.

Repetitive means that something happens repeatedly. In the context of games, a repetitive game will have the player go through the same features over and over again. For example, in MGSV you visit the same locations repeatedly - often the main missions take place in the same locations, and then you have side OPs taking place in the same locations as well, and then you have the sandbox on top of that if you're just looking for soldiers or resources to fulton.
...and the main missions are always "Go to this location on the map, and find this guy, and fulton him.". The game could have avoided this by exanding the map for every main mission completed. Instead we don't even get a new map as the second chapter begins. By the first chapter, the game world is basically all explored (and the main missions starts repeating as well, now being harder).
The other main aspect is the R&D tech tree, where you upgrade things. ...but since the enemies upgrade at the same pace, you never really accomplish anything. You just grind for GMP, that you use to buy upgrades that aren't really upgrades - they often just increase a number.

Very few video games are this repetitive, and there are very few video games that has taken it to this extreme.

...but maybe you LIKE to grind, and maybe you like repetitive stuff. That's up to you.

Post-modernism set in when feminist mothers started taking children away from their fathers. This has resulted in not only gender dysphoria, but the children not really understanding what is beneficial for them. In turn this has resulted in a philosophy - post-modernism - where nothing is right or wrong, but simply "your opinion, maan". Psychopathy is also on the rise - people who don't really understand who's to blame for what, and so they always blame people who don't agree with them, without really understanding that moral values exist.

A post-modernist will say wrong things like there not being any repetitiveness in this game, because everthing is just a matter of interpretation. Maybe Snake isn't really a man. Maybe that's just you INTERPRETING him as a man, et cetera.
I also think that this game is objectively bad in general, but I've tried making you understand that, and have come to realize that I can't win that battle, but at least the case for the game being repetitive, should be clear cut enough for you to understand.

...and you have absolutely no idea what a troll is, so don't use that term. Trolls don't write long and thoughtout replies. That is instead someone not agreeing with you. Hopefully you can grasp that concept: That there are people in this world, that don't share your opinions, and might even have these other opinions because they're more right than you are. Once you understand that, you have taken the first step towards personal maturity and growth. If you never do that, and just keep clinging to everybody else being trolls, then you will die a mental infant.

Yeah, that's what happens when somebody with an IQ of around 130, begins speaking with plebs: There'll be some schooling going down, and many a pleb will taste the paddle.

I'd be a bit more specific and say that the mission selection is repetitive. "Fight this armoured vehicle unit." becomes "Fight this armoured vehicle unit again in a slightly different location." That's to say nothing of the [SUBSISTENCE] and such missions being copies of older ones rather than new ones.

You can definitely see the Peace Walker showing.

When people say gameplay, they're usually referring to the open world, buddy system, weapon customisation, and the stealth/movement/combat mechanics. Those I like. There's also the base building/management for people who are into that sort of thing.

400+ weapons in the game and you use same loadout approaching every outpost the same way.... that way it is repetitive, but if you experiment a bit you will discover there is a lot more to it, so many ways to do each mission
