METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

The prologue of this game is f**king comical.
I can buy the supernatural flying and burning people bs, but what I can not buy is that all those soldiers going around killing people and NOT ONCE CHECKING UNDER THE BEDS.

One of them even f*cking knelt next to a bed and HIS FACE WAS VISIBLE.

Either they sent visually impaired people to do a hospital massacre, or these soldiers purposely want Snake to survive, and only him.

And my god don't get me started on that scene where they double tapped the dead bodies. Snake and Ishmael were the only ones they skipped WHAT THE F*CK ._.

P.S. The scene where people were standing around in a hallway.. are you f*cking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me ._. Such a lazy script-writing, only because they wanted that "oh you're surrounded and going to get massacred from both sides" scene. In reality those people would hide out in one of the larger, safer rooms.

What are you talking about?! Everything about the MGS series is comical. Over the top. Over-acted. Cheese-tastic. That's what makes it great.

Maybe there was intense psi–energy preventing the soldiers from noticing Snake and his buddy.. Maybe they were cloaked in tiny little phase-shifting gerbil pelts.. It's a game. Go with it. :-)

I know it's a game, and i'm trying to look past it but DAMN, If this was a movie and I hadn't paid for it, I would close it and find something else to watch.

I mean... a burning f**king whale swallowed the chopper chasing Snake.. It just leaves me sitting here saying "What the ♥♥♥♥."

He's got a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chunk of shrapnel in his head and is recovering from a nine year long coma. Hallucinations, man.

That would have been a logical explanation had the supernatural stuff not kept going throughout the game. But they do, just become less frequent.

That's Kojima troll-style of story telling for you.

Launch a barrage of crazy cheezy ♥♥♥♥ at your face to lul you into turning your brain off, and then sneak a whole bunch of extremely important plot-points in the midst of the insanity.

I think OP may have hit the nail on the head - I think XOF really WAS sent to the hospital to EXTRACT Big Boss and NOT kill him.
-For instance after Quiet garrottes the doctor, she says over the radio "not yet - the patient in the next bed saw my face" - then she points her gun at YOU and not Ishmael! This implies that Quiet's target was really Ishmael and that she knew he was the real big boss and that Ahab was a fake. After all, if she was sent to kill Ishmael it wouldn't matter what order she shot you guys in.

Plus when Ahab and Ishmael are hiding among the dead bodies, the XOF soldiers shoot all of the corpses to make sure they're dead, but STOP once they reach you - even when they flip over Ahab and he reacts by shielding his eyes against the soldier's flashlights THEY DONT SHOOT HIM! I'm guessing Skull Face wanted Snake alive so he could monologue to him before killing him himself. Or maybe he never wanted Snake dead and just wanted to make his life a living hell?

^ even that wouldn't excuse it to be honest, if they wanted Snake, they would try to at least apprehend him. But noo, they'll just search the whole building, kill all the patients but be oblivious to Snake's presence around them.

To be fair, those gas masks with buillet resistant visors offer ZERO periferal vision IRL, and likely inhibit their ablity to smell or hear snake sneaking around.

The way I thought of it when I saw the scene is that the soldiers both thought that the two on the other side of the hallway got Snake and his buddy. They were both mistaken.

I hate people trying to find a flaw in anything without really experiencing it.

in 1999 my country was bombed and you cannot compare reasoning of people in that times and your critic mind behind the table. As there are innocent people screaming all the way you cannot really be calm and keep your mind straight to do everything perfect, soldiers are trained for combat, every single war veteran describes killing innocent as probably the worst thing, they always remember that and not combats and such. It effects the mind tremendously

point of scenes you described is that Big Boss got out of there by luck, it was really close but he made it. By making it real close call it should effect player's tension, you are pretty much cornered. How the hell you expect to make a dramatic scene with him not even able to walk properly? All that is used to make you more tense, you are so close and if something happens you cannot really do anything about it, desperate last call for run.

Hallucinations are intro into some other part of the game, and big whale is just another reference to Moby D1ck

Actually the big whale was just Psycho Mantis pulling a whale out of the ocean and chucking it at the helicopter. When he was a kid, Mantis didn't really have any will of his own after being experimented on for so long, so he pretty much obeyed the unconsious commands of whoever was feeling the most negative emotions at the time - Snake was justifyably pissed after seeing all of those innocent people get killed, so Mantis (and by extension the Man on Fire) helped Snake escape the Hospital.

That's also why Mantis betrays Skull Foce for Eli at the end of Chapter 1- because Eli is ALWAYS pissed off.
"Such a lust for revenge! WHO!? WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!?"

yeah i was thinking these have to be some fo the dumbest soldiers iv ever seen

ESPECIALLY when another patient grabs your leg underneath the bed and asks you to help him clearly loud enough for the other guy to hear you

THEN the soldier walks over and drags him away from you while HOLDING your leg and then shoots him twice

From that soldiers point of view you would have been COMPLETELY exposed underneath the bed and THEN he was also holding your leg!

The soldiers were talking in the hallway and were able to hear each other also so hearing wasn't a problem for them

You understand 90% of the MGS series is over-the-top Power Rangers-style level of camp? That's what makes it so good.
