Extract the wandering Motherbase soldier...

I have a side mission to extract a wandering motherbase soldier. I found the guy in the desert... I'm not sure 'wandering' is the proper word for what he's up to, and it's more like maniacal panic, but that's not important...

What is important is that he clearly doesn't want to be rescued, and the ungrateful ♥♥♥♥♥♥ keeps clobbering me whenever I get too close. Also, for whatever reason, the tranquilzer pistol doesn't seem to have any effect on him, so it seems my only option will be to sneak up on him.

The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ has rendered me unconscious several times now, and the last time got me killed because he knocked me out in the middle of a road and I came to just in time to be shot by a pair of Soviets in a truck. At this point I recommend that he be written off as a lost cause and not rescued, as I don't think there's anything worth rescuing there, but I suspect the game won't like it if I simply put him out of his misery.

The problem is that I can't seem to sneak up on him, because he seems to see me every time I get within a hundred yards, far sooner that any enemy soldiers ever do, so I'm hoping for some suggestion.

Try using cardboard box or playing "Paz humming" or "Love Deterrance" on idroid speakers.

Use a cardboard box and you can walk up to him with impunity. When he sees you in the box, he'll recognize that you're Big Boss and surrender.

Some things I wish I knew when I played through SP. Tranq does work you just have to hit him right, though iirc, the tranq has to be more powerful than the base tranq to have any real affect. After a certain point I always did those missions with long distance tranq weapons which seemed to work 100% of the time. Oh.... It must be a head shot. body shots of any tranq will not put him down.
