So just returning to ACC could cost you an extraction? All you would really need to do then is hit a checkpoint first then return to acc since checkpoints seem to always give you the "has arrived at motherbase" message.
I'm finding any benefits are offset by the NL ammunition used to catch them. You get some GMP out of it, but I think you spend more on the ammunition than you do from catching the beasties. The only real benefit I see is the item showing up in your database. I catch a couple of each animal and then let them be. Except that dang bear. I'll catch him every time if I need to go through that area. Same goes for any of the aggressive animals. I didn't see one of the wolf-like animals once and darn near jumped out my seat when it attacked. In the confusion I died before I could pick myself up off the floor. LOL Yeah, pay attention to where those guys are at and eliminate them by one means or another.
No real substantial benefit, correct.
I'll take back what I said in reading your other thread. If you fulton animals it does help to balance out your demon points. Early on I did everything because I thought I had to and finished the game and didn't even hit phase 2 horn. Since I completed the game I've been ignoring things I didn't before and noticed the horn begin to grow. I didn't kill everyone along the way, but I sure did kill a lot.
