Return to chopper VS pick up
Is it better to have a chopper land at a pickup spot and get on or can I just select "Return to ACC" after hitting escape? Return to Acc always saves my gameplay so I don't see why I wouldn't just do that each time unless it costs more or swomething.

I've been wondering the same thing. I've always called in a chopper unless I want to abort a mission altogether.

I always call in a chopper for pickup just because I'm paranoid that hitting escape and selecting return to acc might cost more or something. If it seems too good to be true it usually is.

There is no downside to just using return to ACC during freeroam. The only reason to call in a pickup is if you want to 100% extract someone or just like the flavor of it.

So just returning to ACC could cost you an extraction? All you would really need to do then is hit a checkpoint first then return to acc since checkpoints seem to always give you the "has arrived at motherbase" message.

I will start using return to acc then instead of wasting time with the pick up. I've noticed that using it immediately after completing any side ops missions saves everything I did on the mission. I guess it checkpoints when you complete the objective although I've not really noticed.

From my experience the one thing return to acc doesn't do is recover caught animals from cages, have to use chopper for that.

What's the benefit of catching animals

I'm finding any benefits are offset by the NL ammunition used to catch them. You get some GMP out of it, but I think you spend more on the ammunition than you do from catching the beasties. The only real benefit I see is the item showing up in your database. I catch a couple of each animal and then let them be. Except that dang bear. I'll catch him every time if I need to go through that area. Same goes for any of the aggressive animals. I didn't see one of the wolf-like animals once and darn near jumped out my seat when it attacked. In the confusion I died before I could pick myself up off the floor. LOL Yeah, pay attention to where those guys are at and eliminate them by one means or another.

Filling out your conservation platform, 100% completion and cutely written factoids about special animals from Ocelot.

So basically no benefit

No real substantial benefit, correct.

Well at first I didn't know about the "ACC stuff", so I'd call the chopper then after I knew I just went to the ACC, of course. But that just works for the Side Ops, I didn't mind calling a chopper because if you develop you chopper it can reach the Landing Zone faster than you can reach it yourself, so you didn't need the "ACC stuff" for the main missions anyway.

I'll take back what I said in reading your other thread. If you fulton animals it does help to balance out your demon points. Early on I did everything because I thought I had to and finished the game and didn't even hit phase 2 horn. Since I completed the game I've been ignoring things I didn't before and noticed the horn begin to grow. I didn't kill everyone along the way, but I sure did kill a lot.

Didn't feel like reading all the comments but basically heli evac is gonna make a checkpoint once you go out with it, and Retun to ACC won't do such thing, to use that the same way you have to get a checkpoint before leaving the mission area/free roam, just enter/leave a guard post or an outpost for a quick checkpoint.

No. What I meant was that early game the fulton has a chance to fail and kill the target, while putting them in the chopper will always succeed.
