Don't quote me on this but I think it's smaller than GTAV and bigger than Fallout 4?

Not gonna lie, it's not Zelda: Breath of the wild nor Skyrim, so unless you count multiplayer maps that have some changes depending of player setup then it's infinite, but since it's the same base layout and only security setup can change then I'll say it's maybe a little bit bigger than Far Cry 4 (or was it 3 ? The bad guy is wearing a pink suit) map when you combine all the map in MGS5:TPP, zam.

The open world also quite empty. If you looking to freeroam and explore stuff this game doesnt have it. The map has a few medium-large sized Outposts used for missions and lots of very small Guard Posts with like 2-4 people. The rest is empty or filled with animals and plants.

I wouldn't refer to it as an open world. It's really more of an open sandbox. But in general, Afghanistan and Africa are large enough for it being an open world stealth game. You have a lot of freedom in how you want to tackle missions. Just don't expect a world that feels "alive" like in GTA 5.

it's not about size it's about the quality of the maps.. unfortunately mgs took the wrong turn and made it watered down mgs... more missions aka more repeat missions and watered down objectives...

players: we want open world
devs: here you go
players: so I can play any tactic I want?
devs: yes
players: boo-hoo, I play same tactic with same exact weapons and it gets repetitive

it was sarcastic way of interpreting a lot of forum posts about such games where people are whining it is repetitive. With this arsenal there are probably at least 20 ways you can do each mission, distracting, stun, run-and-gun, cqc, interrogation, you can try going for traps and catch people like that, you can tanke a tank....
I just find it hard to justify such comment - do the same thing over and over and it is repetitive, try new things and it's not....
Game gets VERY boring if you camp and snipe from distance all the time and I do not even feel sorry for those people who play like that and complain game is repetitive - who would've thought - you turned AAA game into point-and-click game, who would've thought...

MGSV "Open world" is just corridors. It has no spread out density. You have to zig zag.

GTAV and Fallout 4 are bigger simply because you go get to one part of the map to the other without invisible walls (mountains/cliffs) that you can't reach the top off.
