Corrupt save file
Hi folks. I loaded up the game today and it 'failed to load save file'.

It then asks me if I want to 'delete corrupt save and create new save'..

Obviously I didn't do that, and don't want to do that. I have more than 20 hours clocked now.

Has anyone had this issue, and/or can anyone help fix the issue? I've read there are a few fixes for corrupt save games on other titles, but can't find anyone else with the problem on this one.

I have tried ridiculously hard to just find the save file for this game, and can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where it is saved?

I've checked User/me/appdata/local/capcom/RESIDENTEVILREVALATIONS2 and there is only a config file

Anyone can help?

Damn, that sucks. Your save file is stored in:
<steam-install-folder>\userdata\<steam-user-id>\287290\remote\

Unfortunately there's only one save file, so if it's corrupted I'm not sure what you're going to be able to do.

In this scenario you can only delete your save file (not through the game) and use the steam cloud one.
But most likely the steam cloud one is also currepted now.

Thanks a lot, I found it! It's 0kb so I guess it's truely screwed..

Could you explain to me how to use the icloud save? I've never done that before and can't see any obvious solutions (I could be being an idiot).

Thanks again guys, this sucks big time.

Worth a shot though. Sucks to hear. Did you lost power during a save ?

Basically just rename the save file (to be sure) to something completely different. Steam will compare the existing (none) vs the one in the cloud and replace as needed.

It failed.

Thanks for trying anyway. I can't believe I stuck 24 hours on the clock in this game, and was level 67 in Raid mode.

Not sure I can be bothered to start it all again, even though i've paid for the final episode..

Well, dont worry, If you wait until e4 is out, you can play raid in coop. Makes it a lot more fun / interesting and i have no problems boosting you then if you feel like it. ;)

Still sucks it didn't work. Might need to start backing up saves now.

I already kinda got paranoid couple of days ago.
Made a second backup now. With all that 170 hour progress.

Thanks guys,

BTW, is it possible to use other peoples saves on this game? I've never done it before, but if I could find a save similar to mine I might give it a go. Just because I was really enjoying the game.

All savefiles for RE games are tied to your Steam account. In other words: impossible.

OK, I figured it might be a long shot. Thanks anyway

Well, assuming the saves don't have an MD5 check, you could theoretically fool steam to making it think it's your account.

RE5 did it too, but idk if the save format changed heavily. WIll do some digging and let you know
Dfactor Mar 12, 2015 @ 1:58pm
MD5 check would make no sense since save data would change the values every time.
You'd have to open the binary file and hex edit the values themselves. That is IF the data isn't encrypted.

Damn, that sucks! That's way I always make a backup of my savefiles on Dropbox.

I wonder what may have corrupted it. I suppose that doesn't matter now if you can't get back your save file.
C4PON3 Mar 12, 2015 @ 3:03pm
I actually think I know now why it corrupted.

I have my OS installed on a smallish SSD for faster performance in Windows. The downside is that I am always deleting stuff to make room for other stuff. AKA the hard drive is almost always nearly full.

I turned my computer on today to notice I only had 44kb left on the SSD, meaning that when I was playing the game last night, something was updating in the background, slowly filling the 200 or so MB I had left on the SSD.

I guess then when the game tried to auto-save, there must not have been any room left on the hard drive, therefore not saving the game/corrupting the file somehow.

This is the only explanation I can think of, and it seems a very large coincidence that these two things would happen at the same time.

The lesson for me is, make sure I haven't got apps with potentially big updates to come, on auto-update (and buy a bigger SSD and/or change my steam install to one of the other three HDD I have..)!

Unfortunately I only get an hour or so every couple days to play games these days, and don't want to start this game all over again, even though I paid for it. Maybe one day in the future i'll finish it off.

Needless to say - don't copy me and do idiotic things guys haha
