Battle Academy

Battle Academy

I don't know why I never recognized this games' GREATNESS
I've had this game for years and for whatever reason I just didn't care for it back then. Maybe I was just looking more for a game with a larger scope like Panzer Corps, Strategic Mind, Order of Battle etc.

Revisiting this game now, I realize how well this game nails down the feel of a WW2 table top miniatures game and it's freaking awesome. I feel like I just discovered a $100 bill that was stuffed in my couch cushion, haha.

Agreed. Keep coming back to it year after year. You should check out PBEM as well which is still fairly active.

Ya it is surprisingly good and quite hard too. I bought both #1 and 2 from the Slitherine store cause of the cute graphics and then found out the battles pull no punches and very realistic especially armored vehicles and AT guns in combat cause the armor and penetration chances are very well done. The comic book briefings are a sweet addition to add more charm along with the cute towns and lovely green meadows.

It's interesting how some games just look better and better over time. This ones becoming a classic.

+1. Underrated series. I think the graphic style made people think it more casual than it really is. It actually captures the tactical essence really well, without all the minutae that grinds other games down into slow micromanagement grinds (eg Combat Mission)

I'm glad I gave it a chance. It's been pretty fun. It's very easy to get into as it doesn't ask for much of you at the beginning slowly unraveling the complexity. Do they have any other strategy games in this format?

There's a Battlefield Academy 2 that is Eastern Front oriented. It's decent.

I have that one as well. I meant other wars other than WWII.

Edit:
Looked it up. Sengoku Jidai, Pike & Shot, and both Field of Glory II games look like what I'm after.

If you're into Field of Glory II (I love that game), you can combine the battle engine of FoGII with FoG: Empires to have a grand strategy map and the fight out any battles in FoGII. Its fantastic.

If your looking for more serious game play similar to this check out "The Troop". In EA and coming along nicely.

I much prefer turn based strategy to RTS. This game is quite fun and not demanding on my laptop. I bought the whole Battle Academy series.
