It's interesting how some games just look better and better over time. This ones becoming a classic.
I liked this game the first time I saw the screenshots on their Slitherine page.
There's a Battlefield Academy 2 that is Eastern Front oriented. It's decent.

Looked it up. Sengoku Jidai, Pike & Shot, and both Field of Glory II games look like what I'm after.
If you're into Field of Glory II (I love that game), you can combine the battle engine of FoGII with FoG: Empires to have a grand strategy map and the fight out any battles in FoGII. Its fantastic.
