EDIT: It's just odd that this is the only game this happens to.
You can download a program called CPU-Z to check the temps while playing if you have to.
I use HWMonitor to check my temps.
List of games that are graphically demanding that I played:
Far Cry 4
Far Cry 3
Battlefield 3
Sniper Elite 3
Saints Row IV
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Rising Storm / Red Orchestra 2
Just Cause 2
Hitman: Absolution
Grand Theft Auto IV
If you also count it, Dolphin Emulator too.
Recently I bought Dying Light and Assassin's Creed IV so when I finally download them and the same problem happens, I will update.
Then again, these games may just not be as graphically demanding as I think and Metro 2033 Redux must be pretty demanding.
I will check temps but I'm not a fan of having my desktop forcefully crash on itself.
Do you think changing quality to "high" rather tha "very high" is better?
GPU: 123° F (50° C)
CPU: 102° F (30° C)
This test was only 3 minutes into the game in a small corridor with 2 enemies on screen.
As jig pointed out it could also be a PSU issue, resulting in your graphics card not getting enough power.
Other things to consider and try; Try different resolutions as well as fullscreen, windowed etc.
Check the energy saving protocol in the control panel and make sure it is set to performance.
Same thing can probably be done with the HD7850 inside catalyst control center.
PSU is 500 watts and my PC only needs ~400 watts

I am using "High Performance" for my energy saving and next time I launch it I will play on "high" settings. If this helps, my cores are unparked as well.
As for re-newing thermal paste I really don't want to do that but if other games start giving me problems I will give it a shot.
EDIT: Now I'm unsure again since my power supply plug was just loose yesterday. I don't even know anymore.
AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
GTX 1070
X470 AUORIS Ultra Gaming
650 W Psu
RAM 16.0 GB
Wow crazy to think how young I was when I started this thread. So I ended up just getting the Redux version and it worked without an issue. Funny enough my PC is basically the same minus the GPU is now a GTX 950 and I run Pop!_OS instead of Windows.
I can't really remember if the problem was the game, my temps, my hardware, or it really was because I had a loose power cable.
My only suggestion is to try and get fans or something. If there are heatwaves that are dramatically causing the hardware in your PC to become hot, then I think your only solution is to just somehow bring cool air into the room if possible.
Other than that, that's all I got for any solution, sorry.
Edit: when i say fans, I mean like a table fan, not ones that attach to your PC lol
Needless to say I reduced everything what makes sense and limited to 30FPS w/o luck. The GPU's temperature was 50C measured by two apps simultaneously
this thread brought back memories. dont remember what the issue was, could have been a bad power supply or loose cable. i had no issues with redux when i played it from start to finish. except had to park my cores to reduce stuttering, but i dont really know so i dont recommend that. today i have a whole new build with linux and game on the deck.
