Edit: Patch on the morning of 8/28/14 fixed my problem.

♥♥♥♥ don't work right.

The Problem: Crashes on startup, directly after the intro credits finish. No error.

PC Specs:
AMD 1090T OC'd to 3.6ghz
16gb ram in a 4x4 kit.
AMD 7950 Boost
AMD Driver 14.4 WHQL
Realtek Onboard
Avast! Premier anti-virus

Not sure what else could be helpful. Raptr with all overlays disabled. Xfire with all overlays disabled. Skype, Corsair Vengeance gaming software, Logitech gaming software, and Winamp are the only "active" apps running along side steam.

Upon launching, there is a second of audio and the cutscene freezes. No CTD, but remains stuck on a nearly black screen.

Inspiron 5520
3rd Gen i5-3210 GPU @ 2.5ghz
Intel HD4000
8GB RAM

Benchmark appears to work, but the actual game does not.

The Problem: Crashes after the intro cutscene finishes. No error.

Specs:
AMD 1090T @ 3.9ghz
16gb ram (4x4gb)
MSI GTX 780 Lightning + MSI GT 240
Nvidia WHQL Driver version 340.52 + Geforce Experience Version 2.1.1.1
MSI Afterburner Version 3.0.1 + MSI VGA fan control
Asus Crosshair IV Formula Motherboard

Other stuff:
Display 1 (game display) 1920x1080, display 2: 1280x1024, Display 3: 1680x1050. (all driven from the GTX780)
Logitech G510 Keyboard

I did look around in the config file a little and noticed the default resolution was set to 1920x1200, which is higher then my display can handle, i changed it to 1920x1080 but the game still crashed, in safemode and normal mode. Doesnt matter if i let the cutscene just run or if i skip it, i just get a blank main display and then a crash to desktop. I tried running the benchmark tool also and managed to see a loading screen for about 2 seconds before it crashed back to desktop. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Desktop dxdiag: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3bfe4dfvaqon8ir/DxDiag.txt?dl=0

Also tried to run it on my laptop, it crashed after playing the intro video for 1 second (the one before the intro video).

Specs: Dell Precision M6400
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme (QX9300) @2.53ghz
8GB Ram (4x2GB)
Nvidia Quadro FX2800M 1GB (Driver Version WHQL 320.49)
1920x1200 Display

Update 2014-09-04: The games works now thanks to this guy's fix:

Originally posted by Nyceis:
I found the fix! It has to do with a messed up registry setting. My suspicion came from the fact that I can also no longer run "intl.cpl" to view the international settings.

I ran this fix it tool from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2958845

It fixed my intl.cpl and Metro 2033 Redux now works!

Devs, you can look at that fix and find the broken registry setting and implement a work around on your end.

Just to double check, I deleted the key it creates and the game stopped working again.

Hope this helps others!

N

To anyone who has similar hardware than me, try it.

Update 2014-09-02: I don't think the new update was targeted at my perticular issue, but I can say that I still have the same problem. The game still won't work. This is getting rediculous.

Update 2014-08-28: Installed the two small updates for both Redux Games and nothing has changed. Same problem as before. However, I did get the steam installer message for LL Redux, but it only stay on for 2 seconds and then nothing gappens.

The game simply refuses to start on my laptop. When I click Play on the Steam Version of both Metro 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux, nothing happens. I tried running both executables as administrator and still nothing happens and running them in windows 7 compatibility mode doesn't help. I made sure that both games runs on my dedicated video card and everything seems fine. I also closed any program that may impact the game (such as Razer game booster). Nothing I do seems to help.

Judging by an other tread (Subject title: Won't even start), it seems that people with laptops have this problem.

Specs:

MSI 2PC-1044US
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel i7-4800MQ 4-cores 2.7GHz (3.7GHz boost)
GTX 870m 3Gb (340.52 NVidia drivers)
8Gb DDR3 1600MHz
1Tb 7200RPM HDD
1920x1080 intergrated display
AVG Internet Security

Update:

I get this in dxdiag concerning the games, I don't know if it would be useful:

Cannot install the game from Steam app. Steam says the install size is only 150 MB for the game when it should be over 6 GB! I've tried downloading/uninstalling and checking game integredity files...nothing's worked. I bought the Redux as a bundle and I think that is the problem me and others are having. This is happening for both games in the bundle. The problem I think is with the whole preloading thing prior to release. Plus on the store page for Metro 2033 Redux, the green banner says I own the game already, but the button that usually says "Play Now" only has the add to cart option for me, like it's saying I have to buy it again. Hope this can be fixed so I can play some time today!

Your game is broken, it refuses to get past that annoyingly unskippable intro video before the menu. I've tried every fix on the forum, updated my drivers, restarted everything. My PC specs are as follows:

GTX550 Ti,
Phenom II X4 920 2.8Ghz,
8 gigs of DDR2 RAM,
Windows 7 64 bit.

Another laptop here. Running the executable just causes it to run for ~ 5 seconds before it quits. No black screens or intro videos either, the only way I can even tell it's running is by looking at the task manager. I seem to be seeing a trend for MSI laptops. Also I just tested Last Light as well with the exact same results.

MSI GS60
Windows 8.1
Intel I7-4700 @ 2.4GHz
GTX 860M
16 GB RAM
1920x1080 Resolution

One second of audio and the intro cutscene freezes. No CTD, stuck on a black screen, need to end the application from the task manager.

32GB DDR3-1866
dual GTX760s @ stock clocks (1920x1200)
