I bought this game expecting great things but I found the first hour to be an absolute chore. It felt like an interactive movie and not a good one at that. Is it worth persevering with?

What a dull depressing game

Honestly that's what i thought when i first played the original Metro 2033 it was freaking boring. But Redux really pulled me in because it holds your hand more and streamlines the mechanics making the game easier to play and easier to understand the mechanics.

After playing Redux i actually enjoy OG Metro somewhat more as well.

2033 is more slow-paced but I feel has some great atmosphere, especially with some decent headphones and the difficulty turned up.
Last Light is more action-oriented, so if you are not having enough violence- that might be a good place to start.
The last one, forgot what it's called but it goes semi-open world, with large maps to explore instead of more linear areas. It's probably the most "everyone accessible" of the 3. I enjoyed all 3, but they probably get more universally likable in order.
