New To Metro - Should I Play Survival Or Spartan?
I've just recently bought the Metro Redux bundle which includes 2033 and Last Light, as I've read so many good reviews about the games over the past few years.

Anyway, I'm at the part where I have to choose to play Survival or Spartan, and I really don't know what to pick. From what I've read, if I want to play Metro 2033 as it was originally made, I should pick Survival?

I just don't know if I'll be missing out on any important gameplay features by choosing Survival over Spartan.

If you guys could help me out I'd appreciate it, thanks.

Spartan is for an easier, run n' gun style of play like original Last Light. Survival has less weapon and ammo to find around the maps, harder stealth AI, and various other features to make it play more like original 2033.

Survival is, as noted in the game, closer to the gameplay of the original version of Metro 2033. What this translates to in-game is more aggresive/perceptive enemy AI and fewer resources (ammo, filters, etc.) The biggest gameplay change is that each filter lasts only 3 minutes instead of 5 (though this doesn't affect total filter time) and that the digital watch from Last Light is replaced with an older model like the original game, which means you don't have down-to-the-second information on how much time is left in a filter.

Spartan mode has the digital watch for filter times and makes it slightly easier to sneak around, while also giving slightly more ammo/filter time per pickup.

Having played the original Metro 2033 a few times, I feel like the modes aren't too different in the Redux aside from the filter changes; most of the differences seem subtle. As long as you are careful with your ammo, you really don't suffer much from having lower drop rates in Survival.

At any rate, I'd recommend playing the game on Survival-Normal on the first playthrough. The Redux is actually slightly easier than the original game because of the way it handles a few things, so it shouldn't be too bad. That also gives you the fallback of switching to Spartan mode if things are too difficult.

youll be missing out if you pick spartan. as for ranger mode, or not to ranger mode it is up to you. on ranger mode you only get 2 weapon slots instead of 3, however the plus side is enemies have less hp. ammo is supposedly harder to come by, but if you keep all the ammo you find you can just pick up a different gun when one runs of a type and you'll therefor always have plenty. this does mean however: that you can't get attached to a gun...meaning don't buy any guns because youll have to drop it for another before long.

as long as you don't buy any guns, or too many attachments though youll always have money to get everything else and thensome

This is untrue.

Spartan is a better experience in last light.

some of the "tweaks" in survival are simply annoying. Nothing that anyone who can beat the game on spartan wouldn't be able to handle.

But definitely annoying.

Survival is the way to go on 2033

Spartan is the way to go on last light.

Layarion may not know what he's talking about. but if he does, he's being elitist. If he doesn't, he's being ignorant.

Enjoy your playthrough.

My word is final on this issue.
