Missing subtitles for english subs?
I started Metro 2033 quite some time ago, and the game looked great. But I saw a few problems in the little time I played, namely some missing subtitles when the NPCs were saying things around me. Of course when I used russian voice. I really want to actually understand what people are talking around me, not only just the important parts, because it ads to the feeling of the world.

Thing is that I WANT to play this game with Russian audio, I don't want to hear english and australian accent speaking russians, it ruins the whole thing. But the thing is that I can't understand russian, not even a little bit. So my question is... this version has a more complete subtitle set or is exactly the same it was before? It was the main reason I stopped playing the game. I will not learn russian for the sake of this game but it would be a shame to miss out on this title.

Good one.
Try ask game support about subs, may be they would help.

I'm having the same experience as you. I absolutely cannot stand the majority of the cringe-worthy attempts at russian accents in the English track - they makes my want to pour boiling battery acid in my ears. The native Russian sounds MUCH better, but like you I cannot understand it. You can get through the core story just fine, as the major characters are all subtitled, but one of the things that makes this game great and unique is all the random conversations that you can hear and make the world all the more real.

BUT they aren't subtitled, which just defeats the purpose. Grrr... don't know what to do.

The only thing I can think of is just to find a transcript of all the NPC dialogue somewhere, print it off or have it displayed on a second monitor/device. The only problem is, I can't seem to find such a thing anywhere. Even the metro wiki only has pretty barebones information about the NPCS.

Sure, it's just making atmosphere. These dialogs no need to be subtitled at all. I also play with english voice and enlish subs. NPC sometimes speaks with mix or russian and english. That's fun) Like "Tikho! Tikho! Come on quick".

well the atmosphere IS important. Just as it was in STALKER games

The background dialogue is world building. It's important for painting the picture of the universe you're playing in. They actually talk about relevant, topical things, not just idle "how about the weather, eh?". By listening to what they're saying, you get a better idea of everything that's going on.
And it is exactly this that makes this game stand out from other games. The gameplay itself is nothing that special. If that's all I cared about I'd go and play something else.

Way to go, you just excluded your deaf playerbase. >_>

Yeah, lack of subtitles annoy me, all I can hear is snippets of conversation and no idea what is being said at all as I'm deaf. >_> Could be missing hints, background story or atmosphere. At the moment the game's plot is rather tunnel-vision'd for me as I can't understand anything that isn't subtitled.

Stupid decision on behalf of the devs to forget to include that tbh.

This is an unfortunate, but understandable, consequence of a non-AAA title.
They simply did not have the funds to support subtitles for all the dialogue.
The only solution? Play the game first in your native tongue, get the full experience, then play with Russian language, to get full immersion. You'll miss the side dialogue on your second playthrough, but at least you'll have already experienced it.

Does the game support modding ? Maybe some of the volunteers can make it out and add subtitles to background dialogues.
