Its best to change up a bit from what you are used to, but I like the Ashot, AKs 74u, and Helsing. They don't get enough love as it is.

my main is shambler(autoshotgun) takes things out in 2 shots mostly (headshots) but not demon or prawns or other non "trash" tikhar or hellbreath for when your not run and guning

kalash and its high grade version near end game are the "universal" weapon

a cool idea that would have fit onto the setting is the reaper (from perfect dark n64)
wich was a centripetal scatter gun that doubles as a melee blender type weapon
the idea would be unlimited low damage "junk" ammo and toggle to use berring ammo
for shortrange damage on par w/ shotgun

The Shambler is by far my favorite shotgun and it never left my inventory once I acquired it. This is pretty much the weapon that got the most kills out of any of my guns, by a huge margin. No surprise - shotgun rules supreme in a world of tight underground environments. While the double-barrel may be able to put out the biggest burst of damage, that reload time will get you killed. The shotgun machine gun is neat, but it does less damage per shot so as the description says it will eat through your ammo, and that reload time will get you killed.

As for other weapons, you'll of course have the Bastard, which you'll want to upgrade to the AK asap, and then that next assault rifle. It's a pretty straghtforward progression. In my game, the weapon in this slot was basically the gun I whipped out when I was in a bad spot and my Shambler had no shells loaded in it.

The weapon that actually got the second most number of kills in my game was the revolver. I slapped a silencer on it and used it as my stealth kill weapon.


I never actually touched any of the pneumatic weapons because all that pumping was just too much trouble for me. The last thing I want to have to do when I have a pack of mutants breathing down my neck is pump my gun.

If you hold onto the flamtethrower from the path to D6 you can find more ammo in the spider lair.

tihar for all things except armors and it has a single shot kill for long range, four barreled shotgun for creature hordes, any kalash for using military bullets.

The helsing since it practically has infinite ammo.
But my choices are:

With that and the throwing kinfe combo, I was able to complete the game on Ranger Hardcore difficulty.

My go-to weapon is usually the Shambler (revolving shotgun that holds six rounds, and can fire all six in quick succession? Yes plz.), or the Kalash 2012 (in the earlier levels). And if you want the extra punch, you can switch out for the pre-war military rounds. Though if you do you're literally shooting your money away, so I'd suggest using that only in extreme emergencies (like if you run out of everything else, and you just need to get away quick).

And like Yerba Mate said (nice name, btw.) the Hellsing has damn-near unlimited ammo, since you can usually just pick up the bolts again.
